About Me & My Family

I live with my Husband and Daughters in sunny Oceanside, CA. We love to get out and about and see new things! I have done a lot of traveling over the years with kids, from my 2 girls, my younger brother to my little cousins and nieces. I get a kick out of surprising them with fun new things and taking them to places I enjoyed as a child.

"Great Location to explore the best of Downtown San Diego"
This property is one of my favorite stops in downtown San Diego. To be honest I have sought refuge in the lobby during a particularity difficult day wandering Comic-Con! I have had a great stay here with my family as well! The newly renovated hotel is amazing and the kids love the "novelty" of walking around town. (Hazards of a suburban existence)

I love that the lobby is always beautiful, someone is always there to open the door, and refreshing water greets you immediately! Check in is easy and the elevators are not light years from the lobby :)

The rooms are a great sizes for the Gaslamp area and you can comfortably sleep a family of 4 in the room. We loved the cheetah print bath robes and yoga mats in the closet. I really enjoyed the pool, the kids were able to swim comfortably and it was perfect for wading.

We had the opportunity to dine at the restaurant on site: Jsix The chef, Anthony Sinsay has created a great menu. We enjoyed the breakfast menu and I highly recommend the fresh juices and the Cheesy Grits were amazing!!

"Great Disney Area Hotel"
This was a great stay with my girls - ages 5 and 7 - they loved the amazing view of the hotel and the kid friendly pool area! Check in was a little slow because they had a full house as they host a lot of convention goers but the hotel had plenty to see and do while waiting. I was able to grab a Starbucks and the girls enjoyed touring all the Christmas trees set up in the lobby. We made a little game out of voting for the best.

Once in the room we were delighted with the view - it was like we were floating over Disneyland! It had a perfect view for fireworks and you could even see the castle! We decided to walk down to the park which wasn't far but it was November in SoCal which means it was hot! I recommend taking the shuttle from the Toy Story Parking lot just across the street from the hotel.

The breakfast buffet was great but I highly recommend making a reservation the night before - our wait wasn't long but because there were so many people from the convention it was difficult to keep my kids in the line while we waited. The buffet offered the usual American and Continental offering but as a bonus hot items like waffles and french toast were made to order from the table! A note: there is not bathroom in the dining area so have your children plan ahead, otherwise you will be exiting the restaurant mid-meal to use the lobby restroom.

The pool was great! It was heated and we were able to enjoy a swim at 9 am! The two spas were large and great for the kids - we were able to enjoy the warm water and not bother the adult guests. The kid splash park didn't open until 10 am so we missed it but it looked very fun!

Overall, we had a great time! It was a very good location for Disney, kids were clearly kept in mind when planning the hotel, and it was very relaxing!

Disclosure: I received a night stay in order to complete the review however, all opinions are my own.

Mission Inn | kids travel, kids activities
Mission Inn
3649 Mission Inn Ave,
"Christmas is Magical!"
We were fortunate to stay here just before the Festival of Lights and got to see the magic of the holidays during our stay. We were told they begin decorating the hotel in August to make sure the stage is set for the event! We checked in while the tree was going up in the lobby - it was decorated for over 6 hours! Then, there was a delicious gingerbread display that my kids desperately wanted to taste! Luckily, we were able to satisfy our holiday cravings at the award wining Casey's Cupcakes!

We stayed in a Junior Suite overlooking the main entry of the hotel, this was a beautiful view of the holiday lights! The lights were being tested throughout the day and off at night but the night before Thanksgiving we were awoken by the beautiful lights at 5 am! We all dressed in our warmest and dashed outside for some early morning photos...we didn't look so great but the lights were amazing! Just as we headed back up for breakfast the lights went out - we felt so lucky to have seen them!

We enjoyed our room - there was ample space for dining and relaxing. The hotel is Historic so their are some restrictions on updates and remodels but everything in the room was very comfortable and modern. We were able to walk right out of our first floor room down to the heated pool! The pool was mainly 3 ft deep which meant I could peacefully sit with my coffee while my kids splashed all around!

I highly recommend the Museum Tour while at the hotel, we were able to see some amazing sites all over the property and learn so much about the owners of the hotel both past and present! The history was great for myself and my kiddos! It was incredible to think we were saying at the same hotel as several US Presidents, Albert Einstein, and countless celebrities.

We had a beautiful tea at the Mission Inn Restaurant - my girls were happy to put on their finest and enjoy a lovely tea. The Princess Tea was a great value at $14 - my youngest isn't a tea drinker so the waitress was kind enough to let her pour lemonade from her tea pot. The Devon-shire Cream was amazing and I highly recommend the macaroons! We all loved the Herbal Jasmine Tea!

We had such a nice stay, one afternoon we had time to explore the nearby shops. Not all of them were kid friendly (a little boring) but the walkway between the shops and the hotel were great, we could explore stores then run a round before going to the next one. We also had a great time exploring the free natural history museum across the street from the hotel. Kids will love the hands on activities! Other than what is near the hotel there wasn't much more to see - this makes the area great for a one or two night stay - or home base if you plan to go up to Lake Arrowhead or into Palm Springs.

We highly recommend staying at this hotel for the holidays! If its sold out be sure the check out the lights display and book a holiday tea!
