Worst Travel Moment With My Kids:
Hmmmmm..... that's tricky, I would have to say when we lost my daughter for about 5 minutes at Disney World. Longest 5 minutes of my life, but thankfully she was safe and sound and had wandered off to wait in line to see a princess.

Brasstown Valley Resort
6321 U.S. 76,
Young Harris,
"Spectacular Resort!!"
My 12 year old daughter and I recently visited Brasstown Valley Resort as part of a much needed mother daughter getaway. We were absolutely blown away by the resort. Everything from the incredibly friendly staff to the grounds of the property exceeded our expectations in every way.

Let’s start with the rooms:

I’m actually not going to say much about the rooms as they are in the process of a large remodel and the décor of the rooms will be changing. What I will say about them is that each one is spacious, clean and incredibly comfortable. Our room featured a balcony that overlooked the property and mountains. Sitting on the balcony in the morning breeze while drinking coffee (coffee maker and coffee are in every room) was a highlight of our getaway, at least for me ;)

Moving on to the property & grounds:

To say this property is beautiful is an understatement. Brasstown Valley Resort is 503 acres of stunning mountain views, pristine golf courses and serene horse & walking trails.
If you are a golfer, you won’t be able to resist the championship golf course. This challenging course offers a great game with spectacular views of the mountains. This course has been ranked by Golf Digest as one of the top courses to play in Georgia.

Golf isn’t really our thing, so we headed to the stables for a 2 hour trail ride on the resorts seasoned trail horses. The stables have several riding packages including group and private trail rides. No matter what package you choose you will be accompanied by one or two experienced riders that will give you a fun and informative ride around the resort property.

There is also a world class summer horse camp for kids of all ages that I have heard great things about!

Tips for visiting the stables:

The trail rides are for ages 7 and up. Children under 7 can
still experience the thrill of being on a horse with guided walks around the large corral.

Beginners should opt for the shorter trail ride. If you have never been on a horse, or it’s been awhile since you’ve ridden, choosing the 1 hour ride is a smart choice. We were cocky and thought the 2 hour ride would be perfect, after about an hour my bum had fallen asleep and my legs were starting to get quite sore. I walked funny the rest of the day as my body tried to recover lol!

Dress in layers. Our ride was in the morning and it was actually quite brisk for a May morning in Georgia. Since a large portion of the trail ride is through shady forest trails, I was glad we both had sweatshirts on. However when we got out in the open, the sun was pretty intense so it was nice to be able to take of the sweatshirt so I didn’t overheat.

Call to verify times and hours of the stables as they vary with the seasons.

Other features of the property include 9 miles of walking trails, a volleyball court, tennis courts and an indoor/outdoor pool for year round family fun.

Now let’s talk about the most important thing. The food:

Brasstown Valley Resort has 2 onsite restaurants, Brassies Grill and The Dining Room.

For a more casual dining experience, Brassies is a great choice for a relaxing lunch, snack or dinner. Our favorite dishes included the buffalo chicken salad and the pecan chicken salad sandwich.

For the best food in the area, head to The Dining Room where you can indulge in a prime rib buffet (Saturday evenings), fuel up for the day with a fabulous breakfast buffet or stop in after a round of golf for lunch amidst a picturesque mountain backdrop.

The Dining Room is a favorite with guest and locals alike so reservations are highly recommended.

Bottom line:

If you are looking for a relaxing mountain getaway, Brasstown Valley Resort should be at the top of your list. True southern hospitality combined with a beautiful resort make for a great vacation spot for a family weekend away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

We will be back for sure!!

Disclosure: I was provided a complimentary stay in exchange for my HONEST opinion. All thoughts are 100% my own :)

King and Prince Beach and Golf Resort | kids travel, kids activities
King and Prince Beach and Golf Resort
201 Arnold Road,
Saint Simons Island, Georgia
To say that I love this resort would be an understatement! I could go on and on all day about all the things I loved, but that could easily turn into a novel to rival War and Peace so I'll just stick to the highlights.

Location, location, location!

King and Prince is the only Saint Simons hotel located on the beach. Ocean views await you from the pool, the restaurant, and some rooms. Easy access to the beach from the resort means that you have no excuse not to stroll along the shoreline at sunset, or get up early to watch the stunning sunrise.

Shell hunting is a real treat for families and with the way the tides come in and out on the beach, you can pick up some amazing shells, just be mindful of the tide and don't stray too far out at low tide as you could end up in a dangerous position when the tide comes back in.

The King and Prince is also centrally located on the island ensuring easy access (by foot, bike or car) to some of the island's best shopping and dining. Ocean Motion Bike Rentals are just a hop skip and a jump from the resort property so you can easily rent a bike for the day and see the island in a whole new way.

5 Star dining (on site!!)

Echo, the onsite restaurant delivers an amazing array of unique coastal dishes centered around local food. The casual and friendly atmosphere makes for unbeatable family dining experience.

Exceptional customer service

It doesn't matter who you run into at the K&P, everybody from the housekeeping staff to the general manager is sure to greet you with a smile and some friendly banter. They really go out of their way to make you feel at home. I looked forward to my interactions with the staff almost as much as I looked forward to the food ;)

Let's start with the pools, those are the most important to families, right? The K&P boasts 3 beautiful beach front pools. While all the pools are family friendly, parents traveling with younger kids will appreciate the special kid pools that are 1 & 3 feet deep, add in the fact that they are adjacent to a sandy play area and your kids may never want to leave!

Other on site amenities include tennis courts, massage services and a full fitness center. Golf enthusiasts will want to visit the King and Prince Golf Course, located approx 12 miles away from the resort. Daily transportation to and from the golf club is available.

the resort can accommodate families of all sizes. You can choose from regular rooms, villas or even a whole house! Whether you are traveling with 1 kid or 10, you can find the perfect accommodations for your family.

If you are headed to Saint Simons Island with your family, do yourself a favor and stay the King & Prince Resort. I can't say enough good things about them. Highly, highly recommended!

Disclosure: I received a complimentary stay at The King and Prince to facilitate my review, however all opinions are 100% honest and my own.

Daytona International Speedway | kids travel, kids activities
Daytona International Speedway
1801 West International Speedway Boulevard,
Daytona Beach,
Florida 32114
"New and So Very Improved!!!"
Daytona International Speedway underwent a massive makeover starting last year. The world center of racing is now an uber sleek, hip and updated experience that will thrill race fans everywhere.

Updated seating, new food options and interactive visitor experiences are just some of what you can expect to find thanks to the new Daytona Rising project.

The focus of the new upgrade are the 5 injectors (stadium entrances). Each injector has its own signature style and interactive experiences.

Walk through the Sunoco injector and you will find innovative art featuring automotive equipment, an immersive victory lane experience and stunning fourth turn racing views.

Chevrolet’s injector gives fans a look into some of Chevy’s best cars/trucks and suvs. Interactive games and fan experiences make Chevy a great place to visit on race day!

Step into the Florida Health Injector and you are instantly transported to a place of tranquility and rejuvenation. Interactive exhibits designed to encourage healthy living and life balance can be found on the second floor. The third floor boasts a relaxing lawn with relaxing seating and a bird’s eye view of the city.

I’ve saved the best for last. The Toyota injector is truly a fun family experience. Start outside at the mini Ferris wheel or take a spin on the Toyota test track where professional drivers will take you on a thrilling ride. Head inside for a variety of fun and entertaining stations. Stop by the Roadhouse where you can grab a pastrami burger (so good!) and enjoy your meal in unique booths made from the tailgates of tundra trucks.

If you can pry yourself away from the food and fun in the injectors, you will enjoy the brand new wider and more comfortable seating in the grandstands as cars scream by you at more than 200 mph.

Honestly, even if you aren’t a die-hard race fan you will still have a great time at the Daytona International Speedway. There is so much to see and do, you won’t ever get bored!

Bring ear plugs! Even inside the injectors is very loud when the race is on.

Pick higher seats. Somewhere on the third level is great, you can see the whole track without worrying about getting a nosebleed ;)

Bring a light jacket. The higher up you are the windier it gets. If you are visiting the track in the cooler months, a jacket is a must.

Sunscreen! I can't stress this enough. Lather yourself with sunscreen. You will be in the direct sun, there is no shade in the seats until late afternoon. Even if it's freezing outside, you will still need sunscreen.

Disclosure- I received complimentary admission to The Daytona International Speedway for the Daytona 500 so I could bring you the skinny on this attraction. However all opinions are mine and mine alone :)

Charlie's Beech Mountain Realty Property #GL83
3455 South Beech Mountain Parkway,
Beech Mountain, North Carolina
"Clean & Cozy with Beautiful Views"
My family and I stayed at this property on a recent ski trip to Beech Mountain, NC and we loved it!

There are so many reasons that we loved this property, here are the top 5:

1. Clean- I can't tell you how many properties we have visited in our travels that have been less than stellar when it comes to cleanliness. Fortunately for us this Beech Mountain property was spic and span. We had crisp, clean linens and there wasn't a speck of dust anywhere to be found.

2. Lot's of room! As a family of 8 we often find ourselves tripping over each other on vacation, even in a rental home. Not the case with lovely home. With 3 bedrooms, a loft and downstairs rec room we were able to spread out comfortably.

3. Views! This home was located on the 16th hole of the beautiful Beech Mountain golf course. Every morning we woke up to many deer grazing on the golf course and near the pond. The kids loved seeing them every morning and often in the evenings.

4. Fully equipped kitchen! As much as WE love to eat out, our bank account doesn't. I can;t tell you how nice it is to have a place to cook a nice meal while on vacation. This kitchen had pots and pas, dishes & utensils. We were able to make a run to Fred's Mercantile and grab some food to cook at the house and save ourselves a ton of money.

5. Location! This house was a short (less than 5 minutes) drive to the resort. It was nice not have to spend our precious vacation time in the car driving back and forth. The close proximity made going back for forgotten items (kids always forget SOMETHING!) much less of an ordeal.

This house was one of the best we have stayed in and we will definitely use Charlie's Beech Mountain Realty when we come back to Beech Mountain in the future.

*Disclosure- I was provided a complimentary stay at property GL83 to facilitate a review. However, this did not affect my review in anyway, all opinions are my own!

Fred's General Mercantile | kids travel, kids activities
Fred's General Mercantile
501 Beech Mountain Parkway,
Beech Mountain,
North Carolina 28604
"A Beech Mountain tradition!"
Like another reviewer said, Fred’s is a Beech Mountain institution. Whether you need a jug of milk, a pair of gloves or the best breakfast on the mountain, Fred’s is where you want to be.

Before you head out for a day on the slopes fuel up with a hearty breakfast. Options are plentiful and include cinnamon rolls, eggs and bacon, biscuit sandwiches and so much more. Breakfast is no frills, but oh so good.

I had simple, but yummy, bacon and eggs while my kids sampled the waffles, breakfast sandwiches and gooey cinnamon rolls. My eggs were done exactly the way I asked (scrambled, a little runny, with cheese) and the bacon was crisp and delicious. My kids devoured their meals in record time, I had to stop them from licking the plates when they were done. Seriously.

The other thing I have to mention here is the service. We were greeted with a friendly smile by everyone working there. Despite the fact that breakfast is served cafeteria style, the people behind the counter checked on us frequently, chatted us up about our visit and went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our meal.

When you leave do yourself a favor and grab a couple tempting deli sandwiches to eat after a morning of skiing/snowboarding fun. You will thank me later.

Visiting Beech Mountain without making a stop at Fred’s is practically a crime. Don’t be that person. Make it a point to stop by Fred’s at least once on your Beech Mountain vacation.

*Disclosure – I received a complimentary meal at Fred's Mercantile in order to give you the inside scoop, however, all opinions are 100% my own :)
