"The Best of Waikiki for Families"

The kids and I just stayed at the Sheraton Waikiki and absolutely loved it. The hotel is clean and modern with plenty to do. Best of all it’s located right on the beach in Waikiki, Oahu.

There are a variety of rooms in this hotel ranging from city view rooms to luxurious ocean view suites. We stayed in an ocean front room with an unbeatable view. The room had a large king size bed as well as a double bed which may accommodate some families better than the standard two queen set up in many hotels. We found the room to be a perfect fit for our family with both kids (5 & 7) fitting comfortably in the double bed.

The rooms are also equipped with a large LCD TV, great Wi-Fi, a mini fridge and full bathrooms.

If you are headed to Waikiki, there are few hotels that can rival this location and none that can really beat it. Very few hotels have similar positioning on the beach. The Sheraton Waikiki is located in the heart of the shopping district and also directly on the beach. I loved that we were close to the action when we wanted to be but could also avoid it all when we wanted some beach and quiet time.

There are plenty of dining options at the Sheraton Waikiki. Onsite you can choose from a number great restaurants. Rum Fire has a fantastic patio and great menu choices. The patio also has nightly entertainment. Kai Market also offers locally grown and sourced food in a buffet setting. Both have views of the ocean. For quick service dining, there is Peet’s Coffee & Tea that offers baked goods and Hapas Pizza.

A really great perk of staying at the Sheraton Waikiki is that you also have access to the dining at the Royal Hawaiian and Moana Surfrider hotels. We loved being able to head over to both to sample their restaurants while being able charge back to the room at the Sheraton Waikiki.
Make sure to ask about dining for Children 5 and under as they eat for free from the Children’s Menu at a some restaurants for breakfast, lunch and dinner with a paying adult per child.

The highlight for us at the Sheraton Waikiki was the pool space. The hotel has two pools; a kids’ or family pool (known as Helumoa Playground) and a gorgeous adult only edgeless pool with an incredible ocean view (known as the Edge of Waikiki).

The Helumoa Playground consists of two freshwater swimming pools with a 15 foot high slide and a smaller slide that goes from one pool to the next. There is also a shallower section for smaller kids with a separation so they cannot accidentally go into deeper water and some fun fountains to play in. My favourite place to hang out was in either of the two whirlpools that both had gorgeous beach views.

We found because most adults lounged in the edgeless pool, the Helumoa Playground was much less busy than expected.

The hotel has a variety of other activities that are included with your resort charge. These include the Sheraton Waikiki resort cultural classes which teach you the art of Ukulele, Lei Making, and Hula Dancing. We loved the classes and found the instructors to be great with kids.

The hotel has a pool show each night that will entertain the kids. The Helumoa Playground pool is closed and images are projected onto the water and surrounding rock structures. Makes for a great bedtime activity.

Children under 48” tall are required to wear some sort of flotation device to use the larger slide at the Helumoa Playground pool. We purchased an inflatable life vest for $5 that we ended up using time and time again throughout the trip particularly when snorkeling. There are no lifejackets available to borrow.

Before paying for a snorkeling tour to see sea turtles, spend some time at the beach directly in front of this hotel. We encountered numerous turtles in waist deep water and saw them at night from the walkway in front of the hotel.

This review is based on a media rate visit to the Sheraton Waikiki. I received no other compensation and theses opinions are entirely my own.

"This Hotel is great for kids"

My family stayed here for 5 days & it was excellent. My 6 year old enjoyed the 2 waterslides & hot tubs & my 3 year old loved the kiddy pool. There is a small koi pond, kid friendly activities & they are located on one of the best stretches of waikiki beach which provides stunning sunsets & beautiful views of surfers & sea turtles. We would go for an early morning swim at the beach, have breakfast at Peets coffee, go out for a day of activities & then lounge by the pool for sundown drinks & appetizers at Rumfire. The other guests were mostly families & friendly Japanese tourists. The Hotel was in great condition & had been recently remodeled. There was live family friendly entertainment every night & the Infinity pool looked spectacular, although kids arent allowed in it. We had a great experience staying at Sheraton Waikiki.

"I love this hotel!"

Maybe it's because our luck has always been good here.  The first time we stayed, the class of room we booked was sold out, so we got a free upgrade to an ocean view room.  I'll remember till I die the sensation when the bellhop opened the door onto a postcard view of Diamond Head framed by our lanai door.  The other time, we somehow or other got free tickets for a ride on an outrigger.  It's huge (the hotel, not the outrigger), and contains a couple of good restaurants and all sorts of tourist shops.  Wonderful pool area right next to the ocean, and only a few yards to the beach.  There's a three-level shopping center only a hundred yards or so away, and a short walk down an alley leads to lots of restaurants (and more shopping) on Lewers Street.  If you have an ocean view, you can watch the sea turtles in the afternoon.  Staff is incredibly friendly and helpful.  Can't go wrong staying here.
