Upgraded cabin in heart of Hill Country
We used to tent camp frequently with our kids, but since the arrival of our youngest (now age 1), we haven't been brave enough to camp with all 5 kids. When I heard that KOA has multiple types of cabins available, I knew I wanted to try it.
At the Fredericksburg KOA there are two kinds of cabins, plus of course the RV sites. The upgraded cabins (which sleep 2 people) have a half bath, ceiling fan, mini-fridge, and TV with cable. The cabins where we stayed sleep 4 (we use 2 cabins), and thankfully air conditioning (and heat if you come in the winter). There is a double bed, and then a set of bunk beds; don't forget the sleeping bags or linens! The mattresses were new and covered in easy-to-clean vinyl. The cabins looked brand new to me, yet the owners said they are actually tearing them down and rebuilding them within the next year or so.
In the cabin, there is the perfect amount of space to fit a pack 'n play nestled behind the door and at the foot of the bunk beds. We had cabins just next to the bathrooms, which was convenient in the middle of the night for the inevitable trip with the kids. The private bathrooms were clean and had showers as well.
Each cabin has a picnic table, grill, and front porch swing. While we were making dinner, my kids had loads of fun on the property following around the kittens, roaming chickens, and walking over to the long horn cattle to feed them through the fence. The property is lightly forested with plenty of shade and room for kids to play. We were pleasantly surprised that we didn't run into any fire anthills or wasps, which shows the property owners have kept up with the outdoor maintenance really well.
The only thing we would change is the addition of a larger cabin for families with more than 2 kids, so we could all sleep under one roof. The Texas Hill Country is such a unique place to explore, and this KOA is in a great location for a base.
"KOA invited our family to find out what's behind the yellow sign and provided a complimentary stay. However, always, all opinions are entirely my own."
