And, as I was driving into the city, I was wondering if this was really such a good idea. Actually, it was a great idea - the perfect way to wrap up our road trip. Location The drive into Jersey City wasn't all that difficult - even at rush hour. And, the DoubleTree Hotel even had self-parking - so convenient! The hotel is within walking distance of a mall and lots of family-friendly chain restaurants. We opted for the Cheesecake Factory because we were familiar with the menu, and it was the easiest option for us. After dinner we walked down to the waterfront and soaked in the view of NYC at sunset. It was beautiful. We walked all the way down past the Hyatt to get a glimpse of the Statue of Liberty. (Our destination the next morning.) Room Our room was on the 7th floor - anything much lower wouldn't have a view. We were barely high enough to see the Hudson River separating the New Jersey skyline from the New York City skyline. Still, at sunrise, it was quite spectacular. Our room was a suite. The living area with a sofa bed, desk and television looked towards the NJ and the south. And the bedroom with two queen beds was a corner room with views towards NYC (and south as well.) The bedroom was simply windows, two beds and a television - it was tiny. The bathroom was relatively large and well proportioned. There was a glass door (that couldn't close completely) between the living area and bedroom. Breakfast I had reserved a package with a buffet breakfast. There were lots of really yummy pastries - which quickly convinced my kids to gobble up the fruit that I had piled on their plates. I really like that there were no sugary cereals - my son always begs for Fruit Loops if they are available. Overall, it was the nice sort of breakfast buffet that you would expect from a hotel at this price point.
