1 Review of The Blueberry Patch

U-Pick blueberry Lover's Heaven!

- August 2014

If you're looking for fresh off the bush blueberries near Mansfield, Ohio, The Blueberry Patch is the spot that locals have been visiting season after season.  They have a u-pick option or pre-picked fresh and frozen blueberries for sale.

The Blueberry Patch has a great, easy to find location on W. Hanley Rd. in Mansfield, Ohio. They have a large sign out front with plenty of parking at the front of their store.

The Blueberry Patch has 27 different varieties of blueberries, each with a different ripening time. Each picking season generally lasts from early July through early autumn but can vary depending on weather conditions. When my daughter and I visited we were able to pick the Blue Ray variety. According to the locals that we talked to, Blue Rays are the premium variety and folks from the area visit every season to pick this type.

Once we received our picking bucket, we walked up their road only a short distance until we saw a sign that said "Pick Here". Rows upon rows on blueberry bushes were ready to be picked and we had a blast choosing just the right berry. It took us about 40 minutes to pick a six pound bucket full of delicious berries and we were told we could eat them straight away without having to wash them because they don't use pesticides- yay!

When you choose to pick blueberries for yourself, it will cost you $3.49 per pound. We could have skipped the picking and just purchased some already picked, but what's the fun in that? If that's the method you choose, the store charges $3.75 per pint, and $15.00 for a 3 pound bucket. A huge, 6 pound bucket runs $30.

The Blueberry Patch has a giant gift shop selling all sorts of cute items and -what else- blueberry products. They have a large cooler filled with pies, frozen blueberries, and other fruit pies and ice cream.

Blossoms is their on-site cafe and has great lunch and dinner offerings. It specializes in all-things blueberry, and its blueberry milkshake is worth the trip to the patch alone. (For my full review of Blossoms, please visit this link:  )

And the Verdict is...?

A great spot to take kids of all ages to pick blueberries! My daughter and I had so much fun learning about blueberry varieties and picking Blue Rays. The cost to pick yourself is a great deal and I loved watching my tween connect with nature- if only for an hour.
