Eleventh President's Home
The birthplace and childhood home of the eleventh president of the United States, the James K. Polk Memorial features exhibits on his life and times. You can see an audiovisual display here as well as take a guided tour of the home. The reconstructed house is typical of those during Polk's childhood. The kitchen and house are authentically furnished with period pieces from the early 1800s. The Mecklenburg Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution erected a
stone monument for our eleventh president at the site in 1904. Picnic facilities are available.
