Fishing under a gigantic muskie!
I was surprised by the amount of interactive fun here. I did a little research and decided since we are all fishermen in the family that we'd enjoy a stop here before heading home from the Lumberjack World Championships--I was right! It was enjoyed by all!
The grounds are well-manicured and much more expansive than we had expected. There is a nice little play area for kids with fish swings, fish tunnel, fish see-saw, and more. It is also semi-shaded which is nice. There are plenty of grassy areas to enjoy a picnic or just to sit back and watch the kids play.
Bait and poles are provided for fishing in a large pool around the monolith muskie, but be aware: they are well-educated! You must get creative to hook a sunny since they are fed the trout pellets all day long!
The fish mounts in the hall of fame area are diverse and very neat to browse. The building (and the inside of the fish) can be a little warm, so go during the cooler times of the day.
The Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame and Museum is a great pit stop to stretch your legs and let the kids play in a safe, fun, fenced environment right in Hayward. Plan to spend at least an hour here.
Stroller friendly, gift shop is at the main entrance and exit, so plan to deal with some requests to buy things!
Disclosure: My family received complimentary admission to the Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame and Museum.
