Hidden gem for nature lovers
Ensign Ranch is a hidden gem for camping-fans in the Seattle area. Located about an hour west of Seattle in Cle Elum, it's an easy drive up I-90.
The 325-acre recreational facility is owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but anyone is welcome to visit as long as they will comply with LDS church standards (such as no alcohol and no activities on Sunday).
There are cabins available, but they book far in advance. It's relatively easy to get a tent campsite. My husband takes our kids up there (I stay home with the baby, but we'll probably start camping as a family next summer). They fish, hike, make s'mores, and sleep in the tent. In the morning, they might fish again, slide down the giant slip and slide, or ride ponies. There is so much to do at Ensign Ranch, and it's all very affordable and family-friendly. Some other activities include: a ropes course, archery range, hayrides, and mountain biking.
