Beautiful indoor aviary!
Bird Kingdom, located on River Road in the heart of Niagara Falls' tourist area, the a fun way to spend an hour or two bird-watching and learning about our fine, feathered friends! 45,000 square feet and 3 stories of well-maintained and themed areas will delight the wee ones as well as adults.
After an initial ascent via escalator, painted bird prints on the floors guided us in the right direction through each section. We encountered a small aviary, a nocturnal zone, and a reptile encounter area. The nocturnal area is darkly lit but just light enough to allow visitors to move around with ease. A "dig site" is also in the nocturnal area which encourages younger children to pretend to be archaeologists and uncover fossils and bones.
The most impressive area is by far the main aviary. With a $16 million dollar renovation and thousands of square feet in space, this multiple story area houses 80 different species of birds, a 40-foot waterfall, and an Oriental tea house! Paths were clearly marked and are secured with handrails and carried us around a path through the habitat. Our favorite section was the Lorikeet house, which had a separate entrance and we were actually allowed to feed the Australian birds. There was an additional cost of $2.00 per nectar cup, but the birds drank right our of our hands and made the extra money well-spent. Mind your head and personal items, as the imported birds like to land on, and possibly nip at, your clothing, shoes, and hair!
My daughter, age 11, loved Bird Kingdom and wanted to stay longer than we did! The next time we return we will definitely allow more time to visit. Younger children will adore the ample space and imported birds and reptiles, and parents will love seeing huge smiles on their children's faces!

Be one with the birds...
On our latest trip to Niagara Falls, we had heard about the Bird Kingdom and wanted to see it for ourselves.
We had about an hour left before closing, so we were in a rush to make sure we saw everything. We started by going through their exhibits, a smaller aviary, a room with reptiles, bats and other nocturnal animals, but the main highlight was of course the main aviary room. Once we walked in the room, we could hear birds tweeting about. We started at the top and as we made our way down to the main level, it was interesting to see the birds going about their business. Some birds would be flying overheard; others were perched on trees; others oblivious to the fact we were there. My oldest had fun trying to find the birds; my youngest trying to chase the birds.
Overall, it was a fun time for the whole family to be able to see different types of birds in a more natural environment. Since there are more than birds here, it would be an ideal place for animal lovers as well.
