1 Review of Afternoon Tea at the Fairmont San Jose

Feeling Like an 11-year-old Princess, PRICELESS

- February 2013

This holiday season, my family enjoyed a decadent two-night stay at the San Jose Fairmont and it was dreamlike! From downtown San Jose’s holiday festivities to the Fairmont’s unprecedented attention to detail, my weekend experience was filled with a steady stream of ooooh’s and ahhhhh’s!

As a special treat, my family enjoyed Afternoon Tea from the comfort of our room. Highlights include an English Cucumber, Roma Tomato, and Cream Cheese sandwich and scones with a lemon curd worth dying for! I wanted to spread its lemony goodness directly on my tongue instead of the scone!

When your budget allows, Afternoon Tea at the Fairmont is a luxury you most indulge in. It's like a visit to the spa for your mouth. Tea at the Fairmont is offered year-round in your guest room and seasonally in the lobby. It includes:

FULL AFTERNOON TEA $32:

-Selection of Teas
-Assortment of Finger Sandwiches
-Fresh Baked Scones with Devonshire Cream, Lemon Curd &
  Fruit Preserves
-An Array of French Pastries

The Full Afternoon Tea accompanied with a glass of Laurent Perrier Brut Champagne $42

CHILDREN'S TEA MENU $18

-Selection of Teas or Creamy Hot Chocolate
-Assortment of Finger Sandwiches
-Jelly Sandwiches
-Peanut Butter Sandwiches
-French Pastries

The table was laid with a vase of freshly cut flowers, beautiful white and blue cups and saucers, and little scones, cakes, and pastries. Halved lemons were wrapped in yellow cloth with ribbon accompanied by sides of milk, sugar, cream, and jam. When my son and I sat down to enjoy the delightful bites placed before us, the "klink" of the tea set took me back to my childhood.

According to the Fairmont’s website, afternoon Tea was created by Anne, 7th Duchess of Bedford. Every day in the late afternoon, Anne grew weak with hunger. To fill in the long gap between meals, Anne invented Afternoon Tea. All hail Anne!
