Tips on Travel Safety for Your Child's Lovey

by: LiLing Pang

I just couldn’t believe it!  Why wasn’t TY making Bunnybears in green anymore?  We were about to leave for Paris and I knew that our 18 month old would be absolutely devastated if we didn’t bring sweet Bunnybear along, but what about the disaster it would be if we were to accidently loose him while traveling.

In fact, that’s exactly what happened to Trekaroo family 2 Parents and 2 Girls.  They went to Paris and left Tiger Kitty at a hotel.  When they got home, and realized she was lost, they called the hotel. “Weeks passed, I called again, but no Tiger Kitty. I ended up buying an identical animal on Ebay. I put it into a big envelope with a note ("had fun in Paris but missed you. . .took a bath so I look like new") and stuck it into our mailbox.

Here are some practical ideas Trekaroo families shared recently about what they do to keep their child’s lovey safe:

1) Set rules about lovey boundaries ahead of time and stick to them

“We try to make sure it only goes to the car and then where ever we're staying. I don't take it to stores or out to eat with us.” – Keebz

2) Put lovey on a leash

“I put a linkadoo around its neck and attached the string of links to the diaper bag, my belt loop, the stroller, etc.” – jaybra

3) Purchase backup lovies and rotate the use of them

“Once you figure out what the lovey is, track down a backup or two.” – marvelis

4) Have a habit of accounting for lovies before leaving anywhere

“The rules are they stay packed until we are in our accommodations, they stay in the room and we account for them like kids when we pack up 1,2,3,4,5,6!!!!” – meb 123

 5) Label Lovies

Labeling your child's lovey with a phone number and a message to call the number if it's lost, could give you some added peace of mind that a finder had a way to contact you.  However, don't label it with your address or your child's name in case it ended up in the hands of someone dangerous.

Alternatively, you might consider purchasing a Lost My Lovey Tag.  It's like a doggy tag for lovey.  Lost My Lovey tags have a unique ID and a website address that a finder can go to to report the found lovey.  Lost My Lovey acts as an intermediary so that none of your child's personal information is released to the finder.

Do you have a photo of your child and their lovey, feel free to add it to the photo carousel above.
