Bella Tunno Parent Pod- A Tale of Two Diaper Bags. Part Two

by: Brenda Gradek

Diaper bags come in all shapes in sizes these days, and for good reason. Sure, moms need a convenient solution when its time to head out the door with child(ren) in tow, but just the thought of packing the full-size diaper bag and toting it around all day gives me a backache. For me, the key to a successful outing is to have just the right size of bag for everything I need. No more. No less. In order to do that, I am resigned to not having “a” baby bag, but several to choose from, depending on the situation. A little extra prep time at home can make a huge difference when its double meltdown time in the lobby of the children’s museum.

With the birth of my second child came a slew of new diaper bag choices, Here’s my line-up.

Bella Tunno Parent Pod

Bag #2: The errand runner. I received a Bella Tunno Parent Pod and was delighted with the stylish modern pattern of this functional bag. I keep this in the car for those unexpected side trips, like an emergency trip to the doctor.

Pros:

  • Very stylish, with 5 modern patterns/colors available
  • Multiple pockets inside and out
  • Snap-out zippered, waterproof pouch
  • Hidden hanging hook (great for keeping it handy, but clean, in a public bathroom)

Cons:

  • Small overall size (which is also a Pro depending on how you look at it)
  • Snaps can be difficult to close one-handed

This bag is high on style and super functional, but it will not be your only baby bag. While it’s perfect for running errands or going to the pediatrician, anytime I need to take extra clothing for my older child or if we’ll be out for more than a few hours, this isn’t the bag I reach for. At 10.5” tall by 12” wide, it’s the perfect size to keep in the car or throw in the stroller for unexpected trips.

The Bella Tunno web site claims you can take everything and the kitchen sink with you (without looking like it), but I feel that’s a bit of an overstatement. I found that I could not snap the bag closed if there was too much packed inside. I typically keep 1-2 diapers, wipes, the changing pad that was included, one change of clothing, a bib/burp cloth, one bottle in the bottle pocket, an extra pacifier.

Functionally, the pockets and pouches are well thought out and give plenty of places to stash small items. The only glitch I found in the product is that the snaps can be hard to fasten with one hand, which can be problematic while holding a wiggly baby.

The price of the Parent Pod is $55.00 plus shipping on Bella Tunno’s site, which might be a little steep for what could be considered your second baby bag. However, I find that I use this as much as my bigger bags and I don’t feel like a pack mule hauling it around. I would recommend this to new moms who want to look great, but still be prepared.

Disclosure: This complimentary product was received from the manufacturer to be reviewed by Trekaroo. I received no other compensation, and was not required to express any particular point of view.
