I'd like to get my son finger printed before we leave for Mexico. Does anyone know where I should go?
Is just for your own sense of security in case he goes missing or something? Perhaps you can just fingerprint him yourself using an stamp pad?
Yes, just for my own sense of security. I thought it might be smart to travel with a copy of his passport and fingerprints in my suitcase. I do have stamps pads at home....
The Polly Klaas foundation has a free child safety kit that helps you to create ids and fingerprint your kids. http://www.pollyklaas.org/safe/child-id/
Have you thought of putting some form of ID on him for travel? I have put a small card with my kids name, my name and cell phone in their pocket in case they got lost. When we go to the fair, i write my cell number on their arm with ink i know its a primitive method but i think it's better than nothing.
My local police department does this as a community service thing. You might want to check with yours. They have the kits & are skilled at rolling the prints. If you do it yourself, be sure to do a whole hand/palm print as well (roll the print with your child holding an empty toilet paper roll). Be sure to roll the prints from one side ot the other rather than just pressing donw on the pad of the finger. This gives you a complete print.
A friend of mine was asking the same question before travelling to Thailand. She found the local police station would do the finger printing as well. They also did a footprint and recommended the mom take photos of any identifiable marks (birthmarks, scars, etc).
A technique that I use frequently is to take a picture of each of my kids as we are heading out the door in the morning. This way, I have a very recent picture with me (I use my phone to take the picture) and know exactly what each of them was wearing.
