We always seem to go to Lake Tahoe in the winter time for skiing. But this year, we're going up camping up there for a week. What is there to do with kids in Lake Tahoe during the summer months? Our group will have 3 year olds to 10 year olds.
Are you going to North or South Shore? Here are a few ideas near South Shore:
-Float down the Truckee River
-Beach, Beach, Beach - We love Pope Beach (near Camp Richardson)
-Bike Rides- there are several bike trails around South shore and many places to rent bikes for all ages.
-Taylor Creek visitor Center has a nice 1/2 mile or so walking trail that's beautiful and it leads to an underwater stream chamber. (also near Camp Richardson)
-Heavenly Gondola - expensive but a nice trip if it's your first time there.
-Tahoe Queen boat ride to Emerald Bay
-Hiking..Nice trails around Fallen Leaf Lake and Angora Lakes & D.L Bliss State Park
The shore of the lake is a fabulous place for impromptu play. We were in Lake Tahoe in November and even though the water was cold - as it will be in the summer - our boys played in the water, building bridges, pools and walls using the rocks on the shore. There are also great places to climb on the rocks around the lake. Stop anywhere and just climb, bring a picnic of yummy food and before you know it, the day is gone! We splurged on the Paddle Boat ride around the lake, it was a fun activity for our boys age 4.5 and 6 - and I think they rode for free!
I love all these great ideas for Tahoe in the summer. Any tips on the best kid friendly restaurants?
