One of our users, Judy asked if we might be able to offer any advice on Yosemite in early June. She's heading there with her 3 grandchildren ages 3, 8, and 10. Favorite activities for that's good for multiple aged kids, things to bring, events that you recommend?
Thanks, e
Judy,
I recommend staying at the Yosemite Lodge in Yosemite Village. It's within walking distance to the Falls and close driving distance to lots of the major attractions. The Lodge also has outdoor pools for the kids to enjoy and lots of nightly entertainment (Pick up a Yosemite Today newspaper now called the Yosemite guide when you arrive and it'll list out all the activities around Yosemite for the quarter) . The 8 and 10 year old might enjoy doing the Junior Ranger program.
The Lodge also hosts the Wee Wee Wild Ones, an interactive program for kids 6 and under who are wild about animals, featuring fun stories, songs, games, crafts and activities which your 3 year old might enjoy. Have a great time!
I took my kids to Yosemite when they were little ones and hope to take them back again many more times. The Junior Ranger program is awesome. I actually wrote a post about Yosemite with Kids about a year and a half ago. Maybe it will help you. Here is the link:http://www.doubletheadventure.com/2008/06/yos
Helpful tips for traveling with 3 grandkids to Yosemite? Take their parents. (Just kidding.)
I am assuming this is a roadtrip with the three grandkids piled in the backseat. Are the kids sibling, cousins, or a mix? If they are not all siblings, I suggest putting three rules in place for the parents (most likely the people packing each kids' car activity bag).
1) If packing a more expensive item, coordinate with the other parents to make sure every kid has one (ie MP3 players, handheld games)
2) If the item isn't expensive, pack enough for everyone and make sharing and giving each other little gifts part of the fun (crayons, coloring books, play-doh, activity books, snacks, drinks, etc).
3) Nothin gets packed if it can't be shared.
Have a great time - trips without the parents are the best!
Yosemite lodge is that the name, I see Yosemite Lodge but it is located outside of yosemite. Is that the lodge you are talking about

I don't know if this advice is helpful since you may have already gone to Yosemite! Hopefully you have the lodging info that you need. Yosemite Lodge is in the valley. Great place to stay. There are many other good places to stay in the valley as well, but there may not be any reservations available now for this summer.
My piece of advice is to get a shuttle bus map and take advantage of the shuttle system right away. It is free, the busses are clean, they arrive at the stops very frequently, the passengers friendly. You may meet people from all around the world! You can access every great stop in Yosemite Valley through this system. Other good options for travel in the valley is by bikes or by foot.
Visit every waterfall that you can, enjoy every trail that you find, look at all the flowers and animals that you can. And as long as you end your adventures with ice cream from one of the village stores, your chances of having a great trip are very high!
