What are recommended state parks....and sites to see? Thinking about July visit....Maybe St Andrews and the Pensacola area....Thanks in advance
There are lots of wonderful nature sites to see in Florida's panhandle. Wakulla Springs, south of Tallahassee, is beautiful! It's been ages since I visited Pensacola. Good luck with your planning :-)
Thanks I have visited and love Wakulla Springs just looking to go the beach area though....BTW is it my imagination or did Wakulla Springs once have a campground and now doesnt?
We live in Pensacola and we love going to Ft. Pickens at the Gulf Islands National Seashore. Grayton Beach State Park is absolutely stunning. St. Andrews is a good way to visit Panama City Beach and stay away from all the tourist hotels on the beach. Those would be great state parks to visit if you are looking to stick close to the beach! Have fun!
If we ventured further south in Florida are there other better state parks?
I agree with Jennifer..Grayton Beach is beautiful and it's close to Destin...so gorgeous there! If you have your heart set on Pensacola..I suggest Big Lagoon State Park on the west side of town. We've been going there for years. Small camping area with playground..you can drive or walk (a ways) to the main beach area with a bigger playground, showers bathrooms and a small beach..lots shade and cabanas here..or you can bike or drive all the way to the end of the park for a tall look out area and beautiful stunning beaches..flat too! What is great about camping at Big Lagoon is that you are close to some great little tourist areas (we live close by)...Perdido Kids Park.. Naval Flight Museum is 5 minutes away...maybe you can catch Blue Angels Navy plnes flying!...Perdido Key and Orange Beach AL...National Park in Perdido has great ocean classes where you can collect ocean animals with a net... Check out Jennifers 9above) website at www.pensacolawithkids.com You can search her site to find more info on those things. Good luck!
If you wanted to go further South there are a couple of state parks on the Gulf (Cayo Costa is one that comes to mind). Be sure to read up on what exactly they have available. I will admit I am partial to our state parks up in the Panhandle and thing that they are the best around! ;-)
(Thanks for sharing my site, Tcredibles!)
If you venture as far south as the Tampa Bay area, Fort DeSoto has wonderful camping and a great beach. Recently, it was voted top family beach!
