Is it worth bringing toddlers/preschoolers to this park? I recall going a few years back thinking it was 'off the mark' for little ones. Other than the few shows, what is there to do with them?
Any recommendations for this park? Must sees, skip this, etc.
Thanks!
I am not sure how old your kids are but,I just asked my 6 year old yesterday what her favorite park at Disney was...she said Hollywood Studios. I know there are a lot of 'big kid' rides there, but her favorite was the Tower of Terror. Granted she is a little more adventurous than your average 6 year old( she was 5 when she rode it), but the height limit is 40 inches so it is okay for a youngster to ride. However there are other fabulous reason to go to Hollywood studios for preschoolers:
The Beauty and the Beast Show
Fantasmic!!!
The Little Mermaid show
The American Idol experience is a lot of fun for fans
The Back lot tour is fun
but the biggest thing you DO NOT want to miss is the Toy Story ride. Get to the park early, ride and get fast passes...they will want to ride again!!!
If you only spend half a day it will still be worth it. Our family (8,8,and 5) enjoyed it so much we went back a second day!!!
We have taken our daughter to Disney's Hollywood Studios twice, once when she was 3.5 and once when she was nearly 5. Both times we spent the whole day and wished we had more time.
As you said, there are several terrific shows, including Beauty & the Beast (a MUST see), Voyage of the Little Mermaid, and the Playhouse Disney Show (now Disney Junior Live). But there's also Toy Story Mania, which is a fabulous ride, but you must arrive before 10 am and grab a fast pass, or you will have to wait 60-90 minutes to ride it as a walk on. Muppet Vision 3-D is fun, and the Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground is also fun. The Pixar Countdown to Fun parade is really great, and of course Fantasmic! is truly the best show at all the Disney Parks, in my family's opinion.
There are also character greetings, shops, impromptu street shows, food and all the other stuff that takes up time. I don't think you will have any trouble spending a good chunk of a day at this park, and I don't think your preschooler will be a bit bored.
Agree with what everyone else has said. Although, this is the park we spend the least amount of time in with our toddler. We loved the Playhouse Disney show and their are awesome character meet n greets right near the show which was the one that our son was most excited about out of all of them. We also went on the Great Movie Ride and he received a "star" on the walk of fame and special seating which was really exciting (although we did have to cover his eyes in a portion of it). We liked the Muppet 3-D, but the Honey I Shrunk the Kids scared our little guy b/c of the air on the floor which is supposed to be mice (I think?). We thought the Indian Jones show would be fun for him, too, but it was too slow to keep his attention and it was the same exact show we had seen when we were there prebaby 6 years ago. The street show was also lots of fun for him. We skipped all the attractions that were not recommended for his age, so I can't comment on those. Have a great time!
As the previous poster have stated, there is plenty to do for little ones at Disney's Hollywood Studios. You may want to try a character meal at Hollywood and Vine. At lunch and dinner, the characters from Playhouse Disney Live are here (Handy Mandy, etc) Advanced dining reservations are strongly suggested.
Toy Story Midway Mania is excellent and loved by guests of all ages! I recommend you arrive to the theme park at park opening and make sure and get a fast pass first thing for this ride as fastpasses for this ride do run out by mid-day!
Beauty and the Beast is excellent for preschoolers as well as Disney Junior Show. Voyage of the Little Mermaid is great too but it is pretty dark inside and can scare little ones.
I believe you will find plenty to do at Disney's Hollywood Studios to fill up your day!
Magical Planning to you!!
In addition to all the wonderful attractions that have been pointed out, what we liked is that we were able to meet many characters that you won't find in other parks. (like some of the Playhouse Disney characters). They also have several characters out on the same street at once, so you can breeze through, shake hands, snap a pick and move on.
You MUST get there early and get fast passes for Toy Story Mania otherwise you will be on line forever. It is a must do.
