Well, I have once again waited until the "last minute" to book our Memorial Day Camping Weekend, and everything in the bay area is booked solid except Mt. Diablo. Has anyone camped there? Tips? Are the bathrooms decent? Are the spots shady? Private? Is it overrun with Poison Oak?
I haven't been to Mt Diablo....but if you saw spots open at Henry Coe. There is a reason that there are still spots available. Had the most miserable camping trip there a couple of years ago. I'll have to tell you some stories when we get together.
I haven't camped there but I have visited for day trips and if you can get a good spot near the all boulders I think it could be fun. If you want to try something different, Englebright Lake in Gold Country is fun. We used to go every Memorial Day weekend. All the campsites are boat in and first come first served so we would rent a patio boat from the marina and find a spot along the shore to spend the weekend. It was very private and shady and you never had to worry about being too loud. Here is the link: http://www.englebrightlake.com/
