"Fine dining in a historic atmosphere overlooking the Chena River. Spectacular Sunday brunch, prime aged beef, Alaskan seafood, premium wine list and micro brews, catering and wedding services, private parties and banquet rooms." (From The Pump House brochure)
This historic pump house in Fairbanks is now a great restaurant. We ate here with our family to celebrate Opa's birthday and we really enjoyed it.
At one point during the meal, I took a moment to look around at my family and I thought that things just couldn't be better. The halibut I was eating was tender and tasty, the bread delicious, the wine great, the company even greater, the sun shining outside at 8pm on the Chena River, and then I started laughing as I noticed the Millers Light and Coors beer umbrellas on the outside tables. Only in Alaska, I thought. This is a "come as you are" restaurant and enjoy a classy inside environment and a very casual outside one. Either way the food will be delicious.
As a side note, if you visit sometime shortly after 9 am or 2:15 pm, you may get the privilege of seeing the amazing 4 story Riverboat Discovery pass by on the Chena River and you can wave to all the tourists on board. We loved it when all the people on the Pump House dock waved to us when we were on board that boat, tourists ourselves!
