"Great for happy hour, otherwise expensive"

It's convenient to eat at the Prado if you've had a late day at the nearby museums.  There aren't a ton of places to grab dinner.  If you do not get to the Prado right at happy hour time, it will be crowded and you may not find a place to sit.  Happy hour is in the bar only, which isn't too kid friendly.  There is a patio in the back and contrary to what the server told us, they DO NOT have happy hour prices on the patio.  The patio, however, is a better place for kids.  It's very pretty and if they squeal here and there, no one is going to notice.

They have kids meals with the standard mac and cheese and chicken fingers type fare.  I love the pressed salad and ahi tacos that are wrapped in jicama instead of tortillas. Healthy and delicious.  For an example of pricing, I ate there with my daughter and had a glass of moderately priced wine.  I think my bill was $40.

"Amazing Cafe"

There is an amazing cafe in the Prado, it is run by the cohen bros group. I often find myself dreaming about it! It is a great place that is outside and inside. Outside offers views of terraced gardens. The place is upscale but accomodating to kids. I highly recommend the chicken BLT!

"Yummy and relaxing"

We have eaten for everything from a wedding to a lunch after visiting the zoo.  The kids menu is good, although my daughter rebelled because the mac n cheese is fancy and not the "blue box" version.  But otherwise they're very kid-friendly (and jeans friendly) for a fairly nice restaurant.  Not a cheap or quick stop, but very good food.  There's an outdoor patio where kids can run while you wait, and there's a separate changing room near the bathrooms.

"Culinary Heaven With a Kids' Menu"

If you want to eat at the culinary gem of Balboa Park, then you’ll have to go to  The Prado. This is a fancy and expensive restaurant, but it's more affordable at lunch time. We didn’t make reservations for this popular restaurant, so we opted to sit in the bar section. This worked out well since we wanted a light lunch. By light, I mean the best fish tacos I had while in San Diego, and some kickin’ macaroni and cheese for my little guy. The colorful, Spanish-style decor is going to keep the kids busy looking around, at least until the appetizers get there.
