The Airplane Restaurant KC-97 is rich in history, and luck. Returning from one of the many refueling missions to Europe, our KC-97’s crew thought they were going to have to ditch in the Atlantic. They couldn’t remember where they put the Azores (islands located 970 miles west of Portugal)! Luckily for the crew, the plane, and The Airplane Restaurant, the Azores were rediscovered and the plane didn’t end up on the bottom of the ocean.
The Airplane Restaurant opens daily for lunch at 11:00 am and serves until 9:00 weekdays and 10:00 Friday and Saturday.
Go for the entertainment, not the food! Our child loved this place - airplanes hanging from the ceiling in the "terminal" and the chance to eat inside a real airplane will thrill any little person in the family. Kids are invited up into the cockpit of the KC-97 to try out their piloting or navigation skills and will have a blast. The food on the other hand is another story. I had read the reviews on other sites and should have just encouraged the family to have appetizers or dessert because were were all disappointed with our meals. My cheese steak was only partially cooked and my son's spaghetti was over done to the point of mushiness. The fried items were fine - onion rings/fries were good, but everything else was borderline ick. In addition, the restrooms were filthy - I would not even allow my child to wash his hands in the sink it was so dirty. My advice - skip it or only order a few items and not meals!
