"Yummy for my tummy!"

I had the french toast, challah bread dipped in eggs, encrusted with crunchy corn flakes and dusted with powdered sugar.  Amazing.  Wonderful.  I ate every single bite.  After that, I proceeded to eat what was left of my son's two egg + bacon (quality bacon mind you!) + roasted potato meal.  Oh, and they serve excellent Stumptown coffee.  The food is excellent, the ambience is classy, and the wait staff is friendly.  To top it all off they have a small kid's playland area tucked away by the bathroom.  It was conveniently located right near our table.  The prices are very reasonable for the delicious food.  We went on a Friday morning and waited around 20 minutes.  It was packed to the gills, so that is the only potential downside.  It also took slightly on the longer side to get our food, but all in all an amazing place.  If you want to skip the crowds, try a weekday or off peak times of the day.

"yummm"

We have been here and the food is excellent.. The decor is so great too.. chandeliers and quaint lighting.  On the weekends this place always has a line to wait for a seat.  It's very popular!  I feel it's well worth the wait.  We have gotten a few different breakfast meals and all were delicious! I even got my parents a gift cirtificate to there for babysitting for us.

"What a great place!"

I've dined here twice now, once with my son, once with a friend and find the service and the food wonderful!

I have to give big thumbs up this last time around, the family and I went for lunch but had just missed the lunch menu.  I highly recommended the burger to my husband so that is what his heart was set on.

When we arrived, the host told us they were on luncheon menu.  I told the host that we were having burger dreams and we would have to come back a different time.  Husband, son and I went outside to talk about where to try next and the host went out of his way to provide the full lunch menu for us and ushered us back in to a table.

Our server was friendly and sweet and the food was delicious.  We enjoyed and had a great time!

Additionally, I had a wonderful experince the first time I dined there too.

Attentive, friendly service - wonderful food - family friendly.

Can't go wrong here.

"Stop for dessert or coffee at Mother's"

Mother's bistro in downtown Portland is a local favorite, and it's not hard to see why. Dinner and lunch are delicious, but if you only have time for a quick bite (or have squirmy kids in tow), stop by for a fun dessert. (Try to avoid the busy time after 8 pm.) The kids will love the fun selection, and you won't be stuck in a restaurant entertaining kids for very long!

"Great breakfast, lunch or dinner!"

Walking into this place you feel like you have just arrived at Grandma's house.  It is warm and comfortable and smells really good.  You are greeted with a case of sweets that will tempt you to try and save room (but it rarely works!).

I agree with the first reviewer that this is one great place for breakfast.  I also agree that the eggs benedict is one of the best things for breakfast (although, there are so many good things on the menu, you may have a hard time with a decision).  Like she said it does get REALLY busy, so we tend to make reservations when we go downtown.  Really cuts down on the wait, especially with our little one.

Their other meals are also really good and make for some really good comfort food.  We took my English husband's family here to treat them to some real 'American' food.  Things like meatloaf, pot pies, and chicken and dumplings.  Even they were surprised how much they like our 'traditional' foods.

When it isn't super busy, I have even seen the owner/chef come out and hold babies so that mom could eat a hot meal.  That always struck me as amazing, even before I had kids.  She would walk around with them, talking to other patrons, while mom and dad enjoyed a few minutes to themselves.  What a gift she gave them that night on top of the excellent food she prepared!

Definitely a place to check out for a nicer meal out!

"Best Breakfast Ever"

We live in the Bay Area now...we make trips back to Portland three times a year just so we can eat here (I kid you not).

Mother's is one of those quirky, cool institutions you can never get sick of. It was renovated to enlarge the space, but there's still a line at 9am for weekend breakfast! But believe me, it's worth the wait. The whole place is dedicated to moms (see kitschy photo montages to moms all over the place), and there's a small corner with toys for the kiddies.

If you are there on the weekend the Eggs Benedict special is the only thing you need order. Believe me, I promise you the best Eggs Benedict of your life (we had a party of 12 native Portlanders once with 10 orders of the Eggs Benni, waiter didn't bat an eye). The coffee is all Stumptown (we have this trafficked down to us twice a year), a local roaster...Mother's does a fabulous French press. Kid's love the pancakes (so does the Hubs). If you aren't lucky enough to come on the weekend the Portobella mushroom scramble is really good, too! So is the Migas...
