"Great pizza with great atmosphere- what's not to love?"

Kids love pizza. Mom and dad love to feel like they are eating someplace hip. Matchbox provides the perfect solution. Located on Palm Springs' main drag, Palm Canyon Drive, Matchbox is a great place to enjoy dinner and get in some great people watching from up above.

If you decide to add Matchbox to your Palm Springs itinerary (and I think you should), and have a party of 4 or smaller, call ahead for reservations and request the  table on the balcony that is by itself. There is also a table for two on its own little balcony if you are lucky enough to get some alone time with your special someone. These tables are great because you get privacy (which means if your kids want to be kids, they can) and they also have a great view of all the action on the street below.

Matchbox specializes in oven-fired pizzas and with selections such as spicy meatball, chicken pesto, and oven-dried tomato & fresh buffalo mozzarella, there is something to satisfy every pizza lover. My husband shared the Matchbox Meat with my kids and they devoured it all.  I have to admit, I suffered from a bit of pizza envy. I went with the lobster po boy since I had my mind on an upcoming trip to New Orleans and while the sandwich was good, the pizza was better.

In addition to pizza and sandwiches, Matchbox has entrees such prosciutto wrapped salmon, fire roasted maple bourbon chicken, and grilled filet. The entree are priced at about $22 each, making pizza (larges are $20 and shareable) the more economical choice for families.

Bottom line: The ambiance, especially on the private balconies overlooking Palm Canyon Drive, is top notch and the pizza is excellent.  If your family is looking for a night on the town, Matchobox is a great place to start.

Disclosure: My family received dining credit from the Palm Springs Bureau of Tourism while on a press visit to Palm Springs. They did not request that I express any specific opinions about any of my experiences and all of my reviews are always my unbiased opinion.
