"Nice for older kids/adults!"

La Scala's is close to Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, the Convention Center and the historic district, which is how we found it. My family and I had spent the morning exploring Philadelphia and were hungry. This place came recommended. I can only speak for lunch, but my family found it to be satisfying and the staff friendly and efficient.

There was no menu for kids, per se, but my guys are older (13, 11 & 7) so they could adapt the regular menu to their liking pretty easily. If you had small children you'd be stuck ordering plain pasta or maybe a plain pizza, so take heed if you're headed here with a toddler or preschooler. We ordered two stombolis between the three kids which worked out fine. My husband and I each got an entree as well. We liked our food and found it to be very satisfying, and although not super speedy, we didn't wait an awfully long time for the food to arrive. Our waitress was cordial and attentive and we had no issues as far as service. There were not a lot of people in the restaurant, though, so one would expect her to be able to meet our needs quickly and efficiently.

The food was pricey, especially for lunch. Paying over $100 for lunch (especially when more than half of it was stromboli) seemed excessive. The adult entrees were good and we had no complaints about taste or ingredients or anything, but I would have liked it to be a tad more affordable. As a family, it would be hard to go here regularly.

The staff did get points from me, however. I had the waitress note that I have a nut allergy and to please not let any nuts near my food. She was very attentive of this detail and took it seriously. I have been to restaurants where they nod and then bring you nuts on your salad, which in my case could be disastrous. Kudos to them for this important point.

Overall I would recommend this restaurant, but not to families with young kids. The food is good, service is attentive, yet the wait would be too long for youngsters and the lack of a kids menu is also a deterrent. Struck me as a place to enjoy it with your spouse or older kids as a treat!
