La Cocina Restaurant & Cantina is a very local restaurant with a distinct "Tucson" flavor. The day that we enjoyed lunch, the owner was on-hand to greet us and she personally served us several of the dishes.
We ate outdoors in the beautiful winter sunshine, which was a very relaxing atmosphere with small children. The decor includes bright Mexican-inspired doors, colored walls, and lots of plant life. There is also a pond in the center that is home to a turtle and quite a few fish.
Although there is no kid's menu, the servers were very accommodating and said they could tailor any dish for a child's small appetite. Our two older daughters (ages 6 & 3) shared a grilled cheese sandwich on whole wheat with a side of fresh fruit. My husband ordered the Smothered Burrito, which was delicious but..not as good as my dish. I ordered the Smoked Salmon Penne dish and was WOWED by the flavors. I highly recommend it.
Note that this restaurant is also within walking distance of the Joel D. Valdez Main Library and the Children's Museum Tucson.
