The Ironwood American Kitchen is located in the lower level of the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess. The menu is simple but the food was delicious. We dined for dinner and the restaurant was full, so make sure you get reservations. The atmosphere is casual, which is perfect for a large family with small children ages 0-9.
Adult meals are reasonably priced around $15 per plate. Portions were large and filling. My husband ordered the prime rib and was very impressed. Kid meals are mostly priced around $8. According to my 9-year-old daughter, theirs was the best macaroni and cheese she has ever had. The kid meal portions were large enough that my 6, 4, and 2-year-old could have split theirs. My 9-year-old daughter finished hers but I think she was about to burst.
We were seated at a tall table with stools. I was nervous about how that would work out with little kids, but they only fell of the chairs twice and I think they may have stayed in their seats a little better because they were afraid to get down. There are mostly regular height tables so if a tall table would be a problem for you, make sure to request the shorter ones. A high chair also wouldn’t work at the table we were seated at but our baby isn’t quite sitting up yet, anyway. There was plenty of room to pull our stroller right beside the table without it being in the way.
The only problem I had here was that my kids got bored waiting for food. There weren’t crayons or anything for them to play with so I had to try to keep them entertained with the items in my purse. The noise level in the restaurant was loud enough that I didn’t have to try to keep the kids quiet and there was enough space between tables that I wasn’t afraid of them disrupting other diners.
I would recommend this restaurant for families staying at or wanting to visit the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess. The prices are very reasonable for a resort restaurant, especially if young children split their meal.

My family enjoyed a great meal at Ironwood American Kitchen. We utilized the Fairmont's Kids Dining package to score free kids meals here for our little ones, which was a fantastic value while planning to stay and dine on property.
The food at Ironwood was great. My girls loved the kid friendly, traditional favorites offered onsite. I loved the great tasting food, pleasant and earthy decor, and the indoor/outdoor seating options.
My favorite aspect of the restaurant was how accessible the menu was for food allergies. When we travel, we come with a litany of menu accommodations that must be made, and Ironwood was one step ahead offering us great tasting menu options for a variety of dietary needs. No where else have I been able to score gluten-free crab cakes at a hotel. YUM!!!
Fun kid-friendly perk- the kids got to play with rolling pins at the table. This may seem silly, but they loved the novelty.
