Order your BBQ from the old rail car and sit outside on the benches or take it to go. (No indoor seating here)
this is an all meat joint
When one of the two owners has "pork ribs" tattooed on his knuckles, you know the place is serious! Cornbread, check. Mac & cheese, check. Pulled pork, check. Brisket, check. Chicken? Yeah, but I never get it. Hotlinks too, but haven't tried those. Get to this place early, as they have limited space in their smokers. When they sell out, they close up shop and enjoy the rest of the day. We've loved this place ever since it's opened. Unfortunately, it was featured on Food Network's Drive Inns, Diners, and Dives. Now everyone and their Mom knows about it. Happy to share the wealth though! They don't really have much seating, just a few outdoor picnic tables, but you can head down the street to nearby Rockaway Beach to eat. Headed down Highway 1 from San Francisco? Stop at Gorilla!
Gorilla BBQ is located in a bright orange caboose. If that's not enough to catch your attention, then their brisket will. After sitting the smoker for 12 hours, the brisket literally melts in your mouth. Their ribs are huge and yummy with a great spice rub. The chicken is good, but nothing special. Sides are better than most BBQ joints. This joint was recently featured on Drive Inns, Dinners and Dives. So, if you're trying to get a piece of that brisket, call ahead to make sure they haven't sold out for the day. Otherwise, expect a line during normal meal times. There is no dining area except for a couple of picnic tables under a tree.
