No trip to DC is complete without a quick stop in to Georgetown Cupcake. But that quick stop is impossible unless you PREORDER online - at least 1 day before your visit. Pre-ordering allows you to skip the line - which can be over an hour long! These cupcakes are on the small side, which is great because kids can actually finish them. Household favorites are the chocolate ganache, salted caramel, and lime.
While we were in the DC area, we had to go and eat at TLC's DC Cupcakes. I researched it in advance, and these are my tips for families:
Become a fan of them on facebook. Each day, they feature a special flavor on their facebook page....they will give out this flavor FREE to the first 100 people to specifically request it at the store. YUM! These cupcakes are usually $2.75 each. Go early - even if you get there before they open on a weekday, there WILL be a line. However, if you go early and on a weekday, the line won't be ridiculous. These cupcakes are DELICIOUS.....and worth the wait.
You may have heard the buzz about Georgetown Cupcakes - the lines around the block at all hours of the day and night, the stellar reviews and after reviews after reviews, etc. We were there on opening day and continue to go there almost exclusively for our cupcake fix. Sure, cupcakes are the dessert du jour, but kids always love them for parties. Georgetown Cupcake will customize icing colors, fondant shapes/toppings, and do call-ahead orders for a dozen or more cupcakes (HINT: this is a great way to avoid the lines - just order a dozen via email in advance and waltz to the front of the line to pay - trust me, these won't go to waste). Lines are longest on the weekends, and they are closed on Mondays, but weekday mornings are totally do-able. Our faves are the red velvet, lava fudge, and key lime.
