The Dawsonville Pool Room, located in Dawson County, Georgia, 50 miles north of Atlanta in the North Georgia Mountains, is not only a hang-out for the locals, but for the royalty of the racing world - and older children love the casual, family-friendly atmosphere. Gordon Pirkle, who has owned the Pool Room since the mid-1960s, has created a shrine to NASCAR and Bill Elliott - that's Awesome Bill from Dawsonville and the all-time most popular race car drive. Three different Ford front bumpers, removed by Elliott's pit crew, are suspended from the ceiling above the pool table. A tire that came from Elliott's car after it crossed the finish line to win the 1985 Southern 500 sits below the cash register. NASCAR and Elliott career highlights are plastered all over the restaurant's walls. On the menu: Kid favorites including chicken tenders and chicken rings, mini corndogs, dirt pie and fried pie, along with everyone's favorite - the moist and juicy Bully burger. Not far from the Dawsonville Pool Room is the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame, home of the first NASCAR race car driven by Bill Elliott - and plenty of other racing and stock car memorabilia.
