We stopped into Cookes as we were hungry on the drive to the Cape at lunch time. It is on a main street as you come into Hyannis and advertises award winning seafood on their sign. That was enough to get my husbands attention so we drove in.

The parking lot is quite large and being that it was only 11:30 am we were thinking that many people must come here for the seafood.

This style of restaurant is counter service ordering with delivery to table. The menu is above the counter with specials nearby on a white board. There was a line about 10 deep when we walked through. An employee met us at the door to be sure we were aware of the process and handed us a menu to read as well. After 35 years they seem to have this down to a science.

The kids ordered fried fish and clams strips. I had a lobster roll, but I was disappointed that they only offered it with mayo.Hubby ordered the whole belly clams. One exciting note is they had milk shakes. Fountain shakes are always a hit with my kids (and me...but I take sips of theirs). They offered bottled water or will give you a cup to serve yourself at their fountain in the dining room.

There were plenty of tables seeing that it was busy and a second dining room was not even open. I assume that this means they can get pretty busy perhaps at dinner time. We waited a short time for our meal and everyone enjopyed it.

The only downfall here is the line waiting with kids.Although it was a short time for us, I imagine this can get tedious with little ones at a busy hour where tables are scarce. Additionally, if your kids don't like seafood or you want to avoid fried food your options are limited here.There isn't much for the kids to do while they are waiting.

We however enjoyed out meal. The dining room was clean,modern,updated and the restaurant is conveniently located.
