More than a million tourists pass through “America’s Hometown” each year, and for good reason. The Mayflower II, Plymouth Rock, and Plimoth Plantation tell the well-known story of our country’s first permanent European settlers vividly, with only minor embellishments. Of the many tourist attractions that are packed into this tiny town, the rock, the ship, and the outdoor museum are by far the most interesting to kids. If you can, try to visit Plymouth during the spring or late fall — Thanksgiving is best, of course — when there are fewer tour buses.
