Slender strands of sapphire water sparkle amid pastoral farmlands and craggy gorges, a glacier’s good-bye caress during the last couple of ice ages. The Haudenosaunee believed the lakes were formed when the Great Spirit reached down to bless the land, leaving behind two handprints. Whatever version you believe, the Finger Lakes have undoubtedly been graced with the spirit of such great men and women as Samuel Clemens, Harriet Tubman, Tahgahjute, George Eastman, and Susan B.
