Embassy Suites Sacramento Riverfront
100 Capital Mall,
Sacramento, California
"Perfect for families, Perfect location"
Really nice hotel.
They provided a pack n play for our 2yo boy.
Having the separate sitting room for him worked out well for his earlier bedtime.
The free breakfast for hotel guests was perfect for families. It's nice to just go downstairs to eat and not have to drag a cranky hungry toddler out for breakfast.
It's walking distance to Old Town Sacramento and the California State Railroad museum. We brought the stroller, but didn't even need to use it since we were so close.
Parking is $25 overnight. Valet-only which can be a hassle depending on your agenda, but if you're looking for an overnight stay with ready access to Old Town, Downtown, and the Museum, this is a great place.

"Completely Awesome for our 2yo boy"
This museum is perfect for train fans young and old. We went with my 2 year old son, who happens to also be quite the Thomas fan.
Downstairs there's a variety of train engines coaches and cars. You can walk through the mail car, sleeper car, dining car and even sit in one of the engines. Each car/train is manned by a friendly volunteer who explains how the train worked. The day we went, all of the volunteers were seniors, which is wonderful because it's rare that there is a topic that youth and seniors agree on, but love of trains is one of them.
There's a 20 min intro movie that is best to see at the beginning of your visit, however it's optional, and if your toddler is too young to sit quietly for that long, I'd recommend that you skip it. Our boy started yelling "CHOO-CHOO" once the lights dimmed. (oops)
Upstairs there's a Thomas and Friends play area. We were there on a Monday, and it seemed like most of the kids had gathered in this area and were having a grand time.
I would allow yourself about 1.5-2 hours, and maybe longer if your kids want to play in the Thomas area.
There is a museum store as well, which carries Thomas toy (mostly the wooden ones), childrens books, as well as DVDs and books for adult train aficionados.

Metreon Sony Entertainment Center

"Metreon is in transition"
The Metreon is in transition. The Sony Store has closed, as have many other shops. Currently there's still a food court, and the movie theater, and some shops here and there. I've heard rumors that they are going to renovate the building, as there seems to be no effort applied to getting shops into the upper floors.
In the meantime, they have a farmers market on the bottom floor.
I would say that for now, it's not worth a special trip to visit, although if you are in SF, there are kid friendly activities nearby.

Our family had a great time. Kites, Food, Arts & Crafts, Rides, Inflatables, Entertainment, and even beer. It's located in a park with beautiful grass and plenty of room to get a kite air born.
The event is well organized, with ample paid parking ($5.00) in the adjacent lot.
