"Great Place, Ticket Prices too High"
This is a lovely place to take your little ones. I think the best age is probably elementary school and preschool. I took my 3 and 1 year old here and my 3 year old loved it, but was not able to go on all the rides (he is quite the thrillseeker). My one year old loved the Duplo play area and the water play area. Make sure to have one adult per small child, because if you go on the rides there is only room for two on most rides.
In addition to Legos everywhere, there are little parks and play areas. We brought a picnic lunch with no problem.
This place is way more mellow than Disneyland, but Disney is definitely worth the ticket price while Legoland is not. I went for free. I think the max I would pay for a ticket her would be $50 pp. The cost is closer to $70 without a discount.

This place is great for the little ones. They have tanks inside with various fish to look at but the best part is the tour that you go on where you can go into the back and touch and see fish in the various tanks. They also have a nice outdoor tank with some big fish, where they can hold a birthday party. Love this place! They don't have a set price, just a recommended donation. Park right across the street in the metered lot on a non-busy beach day.

"Lunch or Dinner While the Kids Play"
This is an indoor play area with a restaurant that offers healthy choices. When it gets crowded it can be difficult to get a table right away and you may have to wait. The first time I went everything was great, clean, and stocked. The third time I went, there were a lot of toys missing and things that hadn't been replaced. They had a train table with no trains, for example. Hopefully they make some changes soon. Other than that, I still go because it's easy to track my kids and grab a bite to eat with friends or another family.

"Huge Park, Free Train Rides"
The best part of this park are the free train rides the first sunday and third saturday of each month. They are at the Southeast corner of the park, and the line does move quickly because they have several trains. It is run by the Los Angeles Live Steamers.
You can also feed the ducks, play on the playground, and run around the abundant green grass.
There is a great fourth of july fireworks display and all day BBQ/picnic party that takes place every summer here.
The Farmers Market is known to be one of the best in the areas, it takes place on Saturday mornings.

"Free Admission, Family Exhibit Area"
I took my son here for the first time when he was 2.5 years old. First, the admission is free but you do pay to park your car. There is plentiful parking in the parking lot. A little tram goes up the hill, and you have the most beautiful view of Los Angeles on the way up, while the kids enjoy the train ride. Very fun!
There is a family exhibit area that is small, but nice because your little one can explore and you don't have to run too far to help them. There are attendants there that are volunteers I think. Some of them are very lenient and others will watch your kids like a hawk.
The gardens are also great for kids, a maze of gardens, trees, flowers, grass, waterfalls to explore and run through.
We also took my son to a photography exhibit which he liked for a whole of five minutes.
The Getty is kinda fancy, and oddly an adult place that accommodates children and families very nicely. We will be back at some point.
