Green Hills Park
1281 Magnolia Ave,
Millbrae,
California
The official site touts this park as having "endless amenities" which I think refers to the unique features like bocce ball court and chess tables and grills. My reviews are based on preschool aged kids, and from my poit of view, this park was a disappointment.
It's okay for a neighborhood park, but not really worth going out of your way to find. That being said--my kids loved the novelty of the tire swing and there is a lawn that you can play tag in, a 'trail' you can explore, and trees and bushes to hide and seek in.
Playground Info:
Parking: Street parking along Magnolia (I think--check for signage)
Playstructures: 1 older structure, with metal slide and tire swing and platforms to climb on--actually it looks like they forgot to finish it
Bathrooms: NO! (city website says there are, but there are NOT)
Gated: no, and this really should be
Groundcover: dirt
Swings: tire swing. no standard swings.
Water/Sand features: no.
Paved surfaces: lots of stairs and a paved 'trail' that goes around the park--though not suitable for bike/scooter
Open space: yes, a nice lawn area for running, chasing balls, etc
Shade: not much, but we went on a chilly day--so not really an issue.
Eating/Drinking: benches are available by the playground and throughout the park. (We ate snack at the chess tables). No water fountain.
Other: LOTS of steps throughout park...so that might be fun!

McDonalds Play Place

"Good size, clean rainy day activity"
So, the 4 stars is on a relative scale of fast-food restaurant play-places--but on a rainy day on the peninsula it's great!
The play area is large (3 levels high) with a slide and ropes and things to climb over, as well as a toddler area on the ground level with toddler-appropriate activities and structures to crawl on. The entire thing is completely indoors. The floor is rubberized and the whole thing was pretty clean and in good condition. It is also designed so parents can get in and out if they need to without much trouble (and staff to clean it). The whole structure is seperated from the regular restaurant by glass, so they can yell and play without disturbing other guests and the staff is pretty friendly--we asked if we could play first, then eat--totally okay. The women's bathroom was also in good condition when we were there.
We came on a rainy Monday morning around 1030--and it was empty for most of our visit until about 12--though some of the moms said it gets crowded here after school lets out, which makes sense--anyway, for a rainy day activity, my 4 year olds ran and climbed for 45 minutes, ate/played with happy meals for about 30 minutes, and played for another half hour--plus got a new toy to take home, all for about 15$--that's a good value on a rainy day!

Frontierland Playground
Yosemite Dr & Humboldt Ct ,
Pacifica,
California 94044
it's got a great large wooden playground and plenty of room to run!
Playground Info:
Parking: Lot at the end of Yosemite Dr
Playstructures: huge wooden playstructure--unique but hard to see through (harder to keep track of multiple kids)
Bathrooms: distant...a long walk across the adjacent field or back to the parking lot
Gated: yes--both sides of the play structure are gated and together have only one entrance
Groundcover: mulch
Swings: yes
Water/Sand features: some sand, though mostly it's mixed in with the mulch
Paved surfaces: not much
Open space: yes-large grassy field nearby
Shade: the playground has a little shade, but the wood structure provides a lot of protection from the sun for the kids
Eating/Drinking: picnic tables are available near playground and throughout the park. Also a great picnic blanket park. Not sure if there is a water fountain nearby.
Other: kindof a tough one to find, but worth the hunt---just think of it as adding to the safari adventure!
