POIPU KAI RESORT | kids travel, kids activities
POIPU KAI RESORT
1941 A Poipu Road,
Koloa, Hawaii
"Many Options"
We've stayed at Poipu Kai Resort a number of times. The resort is actually kinda confusing. It's not a single resort, but rather a bunch of different condo developments that are built on a big parcel of land. You can't even really tell which condos belong to the resort and which do not because some are across the street. So when you stay here, you will actually select a specific condo development within the resort, and each development is very different, and managed by different companies or owners. They don't even share swimming pools, but there is a big shared tennis facility.

So the first thing to do is decide which condo development in the resort you want to stay at. We usually stay at Regency or Regency Villas which is great for families. There a couple nice pools, the condos are very spacious and roomy and have air conditioning, and are only about a 10 minute walk to the beach (faster if you don't have kids in tow).

Another option in Poipu Kai Resort is Poipu Sands. Very nice pool, large grounds, and some ocean views.

Kuhio Shores
5050 Lawai Road,
Koloa, Hawaii
"One of our Favorites!"
We've stayed here a number of times and love it. The smells and sounds of the ocean, just steps away, are wonderful. For families I would recommend a ground floor unit so the kids can get outside easily.

Although there isn't a pool, there's a lot to explore nearby. For infants there's a place called Baby Beach - a short walk away, that's ideal for swimming and playing. Teenage children will prefer the action of Kiahuna Beach which is a 5 minute drive. There's also good snorkeling at the small beach right beside Kuhio Shores, and tons of turles!

"The Views are Amazing"
All the units are oceanfront and the views are amazing. Very large and spacious. For families a ground floor unit will be nice if your children are older than 5 so that can play on the grass, but it's on top of a cliff so if you have small children you may prefer a high up unit. The pool is small but not crowded. There is a beach below that has snorkeling in the summer but the path to get to it is steep - too difficult for infants.

"Requires caution"
It's a nice area, but you have to be careful here. When the waves become big it can be dangerous as you can get swept off the rocks. You need to check the surf report before you visit. Around the bath the rocks are very slippery, and getting in and out can be difficult.
