"Watch for Day out with Thomas"
We went to Edaville when they were doing the "Day out with Thomas". It was an amazing experience for my children. The place was very clean, and the workers were so nice. I was informed that it is a great place to go on a normal day as well, but being able to ride the "real" Thomas the train made the trip worth it for my crew!!

Jenkinson's Aquarium

"It was something to do"
My kids love aquariums and when we were at the shore last time we decided to go in to break up the day. it was cute, but I didn't think it was as exciting as we had been told. I think it would have been better for younger children. We didn't get to see any of the animals getting fed, so maybe that would have added to the experience. I think the $10 admission was a little steep for what it was.

Hurds Family Farm
2187 Route 32,
Modena,
New York 12548
"A taste of farming!"
When you go to Hurds, you get a taste of what it is like to pick your own things. You can pick apples, strawberries, or other fruits and veggies. Just check the website to see what is ready during what time of year. It is not a cheap day if you plan on doing some of the other things as well. There is a playground, petting zoo, and corn maze. My kids favorite is the cow train. They have barrels cut out and painted like cows. It gets pulled around as you ride in your own "cow". If you are particular on what apples you like, make sure you get the map to tell you where to go. And they even have some in the shop if you can't find enough to fill your bag.

Lawrence Farm Orchards
39 Colandrea Road,
Newburgh,
New York 12550
"A nice family outing"
You can go to pick your own fruits (we go apple picking there every year), and spend time with the kids in all of the play houses. The play area is set up with wooden things as houses, jails, ice cream shop, etc. Make sure you bring your camera as you get some great shots of the kids in the houses. You can also pumpkin pick and do straw mazes.

Storm King Art Center
Old Pleasant Hill Road,
Mountainville,

"Wide open"
As the kids run around, they get to see all of the sculptures around them.. In the midst of this wide open field, there are randomly placed sculptures. There is also an indoor museum. I found it a great place to take my budding photographer!!! I wouldn't suggest it for the smaller children as they may get bored easily. Make sur eyou put on your running shoes though.
