Sacramento Zoo | kids travel, kids activities

"Take the big kids. Bring money."
The Sacramento Zoo is not a zoo that is going to blow your mind or be an impressive trip that you'll scrapbook and talk about years later. If at all possible, avoid it in the summer and wait until your kids are older. There is not a lot available to engross the little ones (i.e. toddler, preschool). The animals are not incredibly active or accessible so my toddler ended up tired from the walking and cranky from the heat.
The food options are minimal, expensive, and served from less than pristine kitchens. They make the food, and put it on the counter under heat lamps before it's even ordered; plus, there were flies all about, landing on the food, etc. GROSS!
