Turtleback Zoo
560 Northfield Ave. ,
West Orange,
New Jersey 07052
I've been going to the Turtle Back Zoo since I was a little girl. It's gone through some major renovations in the past few years and they've really spruced the place up! It's a great small zoo- easily walkable for young kids. They added pony rides and a carousel (for a fee), but the train ride is included in your admission. The animals are easily visible in their habitats, so it's not one of those zoos that you visit, but hardly see any animals b/c they're hiding. We didn't eat at the cafe, but there is one. There is also a McDonald's across the street. A great day trip!

hotel sierra
Rt. 22 East,
Somerset, New Jersey
Hotel Sierra needs to build more hotels! They are reasonably priced (approx. $100 a night), and have a free continental breakfast in the mornings. The rooms are suites, so you can easily sleep a family of 5. Each room has a kitchen and two televisions. The outdoor pool and basketball court are great in the summer and there are many nearby restaurants to visit.

Disneys Port Orleans Resort - Riverside
1251 Riverside Dr,
Lake Buena Vista, Florida
"Great for a family of 5"
Our family has stayed at Port Orleans Riverside twice while visiting WDW. We are a family of 5, so there are limited hotel options- especially on a budget! The rooms aren't that large, especially when you pull out the trundle bed, but who needs a large room when you're not even in it all day? The hotel is spread out into condo-style little building clusters. Some of them are far from the main lobby/restaurant, but there are bus stops throughout. The pool is wonderful for kids with a big water slide and plenty of splashing room.

Peaceful Valley Orchards
150 Pittstown Road,
Pittstown,
New Jersey 08867
Peaceful Valley Farm is a great family-run farm. They have animals on the farm that the kids can feed and pick your own berries, apples and pumpkins in season. Their farm market has wonderful fresh produce and homemade pies, cakes and doughnuts! What also makes this farm so great is that they donate land and refrigerator space to America's Grow a Row- a non-profit that grows and collects produce for local food banks.
