Country Club Plaza
4745 Central,
Kansas City,
Missouri
Great place to safely let your kids run amok while doing some shopping in a pleasant outdoor shopping mall. There are many fun stores for kids, high end fashion boutiques as well as a movie theater and a Border's Bookstore.
Fun Fact: The Plaza is America's first shopping center.

Astroland

"Astroland in Coney Island"
Once a bustling and energetic beach resort for New Yorkers from 1900 to about 1945, it is now a bit dilapidated and depressing to visit on the off season months. The history is still there and the rollercoasters and boardwalk all point to a grander time in bygone days.
Astroland is the main amusement park in Coney Island with its wooden rollercoasters and Ferris Wheel.
Coney Island is a nice to visit for a sense of its glory days but going out to that point in Brooklyn may not be worth it.

Nathan's Hot Dogs is still there and the underwhelming store is still serving out delicious hot dogs!

Carnegie Hall
154 West 57th Street,
New York (Manhattan),
New York 10019
"How do you get to Carnegie Hall?"
Answer: Practice, practice, practice.
This famous concert hall that was saved from demolition and beautifully restored by violinist Isaac Stern. Mostly classical music performances are staged here but sometimes jazz or more modern events are included. Comedian Andy Kaufman also had a show here once and then took all the audience members out for milk and cookies afterwards.

Bryant Park
42nd St. and 5th Avenue,
New York (Manhattan),
New York 10110
A good place to rest and recharge during your trip to NYC. Not really a destination in itself, unless you are interested in the annual fashion show (during July?). Bryant Park is just west (or behind) the main entrance to the Main Library. The park used to host vagrants but Manhattan has cleaned it up to be very welcoming for tourists. The greenery is a nice contrast to most of NYC's "concrete jungle." There are loose park chairs to pull up and rest on. Also, kiosks for refreshments are available.
