Tifft Nature Preserve
1200 Fuhrmann Boulevard,
Buffalo,
New York 14203
Small area in the city good for a picnic spot or a quick exploration. Secluded and quiet, can be relaxing if you are just trying to get away for a bit but not a good spot to plan a whole day. There is a pond to fish out of and a few trails, but nothing extensive. No playground available.

Letchworth State Park
1 Lechtworth State Park,
Mount Morris,
New York
This park is gorgeous, especially in the fall. Scenic trails give plenty of hiking for older children and adults, while there are also playgrounds and open space for smaller children to enjoy as well. An annual fall craft show is a popular event at the park, and the foliage can't be beat. A small museum and historical Native American houses are in the park for older kids who may enjoy history.

Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens
2655 South Park Avenue,
Buffalo,
New York
Great place to go if you are looking for a nice walking path. My 1 year old daughter loves to watch the ducks, and I am able to excercise while pushing her in a stroller or pulling her in her wagon. There is a golf course in the park, so heads up while you're walking. Everyone is friendly and its a nice little escape from the surrounding city life.

Central Florida Zoological Park

"not the most exciting place in the world..."
If you're looking for something to do just to get out of the house and enjoy the weather, this would be a good place to go. The exhibits are overgrown and the animals available to see aren't the most attention grabbing animals especially if the children with you are younger. If you are accustomed to larger zoos you will be disappointed.

Brevard Zoo
8225 North Wickham Road,
Melbourne,
Florida 32940
Different activities like kayaking and feeding giraffes from an "eye-level" platform made this trip exciting. Although these activities cost extra they are exciting for children if you're willing to "splurge". Not the largest zoo, but well kept and just the right size for small children, especially in the heat. Worth the trip!
