About Me & My Family

I am the owner of JetSetBabies.com and love to travel. I have been working hard to make seasoned travelers of my children (my spouse hates to travel). We try to do one major trip a year and have been the past 14 years.
Our Family's Travel Personality
curious, simple, energetic, spontaneous
We Just Got Back From
Stockton Island - part of the Lake Superior Madeline Islands
Our Favorite Vacation Spot
Vancouver
A Place We'd Love To Visit
Turks and Caicos - we are finally going June 2011
Favorite Vacation Memory
Our favorite trip to date was 2007, two week long trip that included Seattle, Vancouver, Whistler, and completed by a train trip across Canada.
Worst Travel Moment With My Kids:
My kids are on their best behavior when traveling and have been since they were infants. Our worst experience was probably our last trip in June 09 when the 8 year old threw a tantrumand refused to leave the room, causing 60 year old Aunt to throw a tantrum and threaten to leave me for the remaining week, when I had a class to attend. Luckily the hotel came through with a sitter.

Dreamcatcher Sailing (on Lake Wisconsin)

"Beautiful day on Lake Superior"
I was nervous about spending 24 hours on a small craft trapped together with two children who can't be in the same room together for a few minutes without fighting. Who would have guessed that sailing on a small boat on Lake Superior would be argument free! The kids loved every minute of it. They were a great help with the tasks that needed to be done to sail a boat 10 miles to the beautiful Apostle Islands. They loved sleeping out under the stars - and talk about stars...the sky was beautiful. I've never seen the Milky Way so prominently!! Gorgeous. We had a fabulous time and the boat captain was the best host ever.

Vista Cruise on Lake Superior

"Boating fun for the entire family"
A blast for children of all ages. We do the Vista boat ride at least once a summer and have done so since the kids were age 1. They always love it. Whether it is just the harbor cruise or the lunch or dinner cruise, there is always stuff to see. They especially enjoy getting up close to the big ships in the harbor.

"Our favorite place on DC trip"
We spent an entire day at Mount Vernon and it was our favorite stop. I would definately recommend "The National Treasure Tour" if its still going on. We watched the movie prior to our trip, and then took the tour and the kids loved it. They recognized a lot of the places from the movie - and even noticed the few things the tour guide got a bit wrong. We even got to tour the basement of the house - which is normally off limits. The guided tour through the property was so helpful and I would recommend this to anyone. You get so much more out of the experience. I learned more about George Washington on this tour than I ever did in history class!

"Union Station"
My children were a bit scared by the amount of homeless people hanging around Union Station. The inside was fine, but its a beautiful piece of architecture and we would have like to be outside more. One night we had to wait about 30-40 minutes for our tour bus to leave and there was a large number of homeless people and some were behaving very strangely. It got a little stressed.

"Metro is fast and easy"
I love how easy it is to ride the Metro in DC. We even let the kids plan our route, figure out what train we needed to get on, and what stop we would get off on. They were pros.

My teenager loved the fact that the Metro was exactly like it appeared in the Midtown Madness car race game for X-Box. In fact, he was a pro at finding his way around DC because of the game.

When traveling during peak times, set up a "get lost" plan in case you get separated on the train. I'm always afraid the doors will close before the last person boards. Of course it never happened to me, but I know of people it did happen to and they spent the entire day trying to reconnect.

Our plan in DC was, if not everyone got on the train, then those that did, would get off at the next stop and wait there - don't get on another train until we were all reconnected.
