Avila Valley Barn | kids travel, kids activities
Avila Valley Barn
560 Avila Beach Drive,
San Luis Obispo,
California 93405
"Nothing better!"
Our family adores this barn...and barn is a complete understatement....the sprawling property boasts a complete ice cream factory, bakery, sweet shop, organic and local produce, animals for feeding and hay rides to the crops and tress growing on the grounds. Their roasted corn on the cob is delish! The weekends can get VERY crowed...enjoy and bring your sunscreen its a warm spot in Avila!

San Luis Obispo Children’s Museum | kids travel, kids activities
San Luis Obispo Children’s Museum
1010 Nipomo St.,
San Luis Obispo,
California 93401
"Poorly Designed for Families"
Growing up with the old San Luis Childrens Museum, the "New" improved building leaves little to be desired. Unless your child can appreciate the working of I.M. Pei or Wright, the facade is deceiving as to what the museum actually has to offer. The two story design blocks your view from your child in the wrapping hallways, the rope stair case to the second floor is not accessible by stroller only the Elevator, by which strollers are NOT welcomed. The displays are visually nice to look at, borning, lack desire and the second story with its low pitched roof lines and 1990's Thomas the Tank Engine play area is very lacking for a building that cost the city over 2 mil....DONT waist your time or money, two thumbs down. I am not sure what they were trying to achieve, but this place is over priced and under stocked.

Montana de Oro State Park | kids travel, kids activities
Montana de Oro State Park
Pecho Road,
Morro Bay,
California
"Pt. Buchon is a MUST"
After nearly 30 years an incredible trail within Montana De Oro state park has finally opened...This is the Pt. Buchon trail and its just spectacular... meandering down the coast untouched coves, sea otters off shore, prevailing south winds, california poppy's enveloping the ragged cliffs gray whales breaching, and ground squirrels running figure eights...this trail leaves little to be desired. This is a private property trail owned by PG&E and the Diablo Nuclear Power Plant who have given us the ability to access the land. After a 7 mile drive to the end of Pecho Valley Rd. one parks at the beginning of the trail witch starts with a very steep decline on a paved road to an equally steep incline to the check in station...this trail is amazing, wide, flat and so picturesque...you must take a look...it is ONLY open Sat.-Mon. during the week, enjoy and watch out for rattlesnakes n the summer season.

Bob Jones City to the Sea Trail | kids travel, kids activities
Bob Jones City to the Sea Trail
Ontario Road,
Avila Beach,
California
"GREAT WALK!"
We are so fortunate to live 15 min. from this amazing town of Avila Beach...then the town in stirring wtih tourists or there is fog looming at the beach, the Bob Jones Trail is a great bridge between the to. This path meanders along the San Luis Obispo creek, passes by some amazing country side. Be sure and take a detour to the Woodstone Deli off the path for some yummy sandwiches. During the fall months wild stealhead trouts are seeing running down the stream...this is a flat paved path for the average person to stroll, ride or run for some fresh air fun..take the kiddos there is a park along the way to stop and play for while.

"Great family outing..."
We just love coming here...its a place that my family can stretch their legs and enjoy so much that this place has to offer. This was our first time to visit this place and we cant wait to come back! A wonderful alternative to an amusement park, get there early and you will find close parking :)
