Historic River Street | kids travel, kids activities
Historic River Street
River St.,
Savannah,
Georgia
"A must see in Savannah."
History buff or not, one must visit Historic River Street when coming to Savannah. This is a road close to the seashore with colonial style homes and businesses. This is really a nice place to walk with family with 'mini' parks to rest (think of Forest Gump where he was waiting for the city bus and mentioned 'life is a box of chocolates.."). The tall old overgrown trees draped in spanish moss even sing of the days past. Of course, there are guided tours here. And if you cannot do the tour, there are many plaques, statues, memorials, signs etc that one can read while strolling through the downtown so you can teach yourself some history. I think families with older kids will enjoy this since most children have some awareness of colonial US history. I highly doubt children younger than 6 will have the patience nor appreciation of River street.

"Large airport but well organized"
This is a very large airport...I think it is even larger than LAX IMHO. I cannot compare to JFK cause i have not been there; ATL airport is also much better organized than Chicago's O'hare (which I think is the worst airport ever). Anyway, ATL airport pretty easy to navigate around esp. since concourses are divided into alphabets (a-e and t) with unique numerical gate, like A34. The people mover train is quick and moves people efficiently like if one is in concourse A and needs to go to concourse C. Depending on when is your next connecting flight, you might end up running to your next gate. Reason being is that once you are in the correct concourse, there are so many gates in that concourse, you might have a gate number 35 and fight through the crowd to get there. Don't forget this is one of the most busiest airports in the US.

I know airports especially with the beefed up security nowadays isn't so fun to deal with especially with kids. Atlanta airport will require your family to walk ALOT esp if your concourse is somewhere else compared to where you landed. Keep the very young ones close to you or carry them so you can move efficiently and quickly. As solo traveler,I even found it tiresome to deal with ATL airport when my connecting flight was in another concourse (or even same concourse b/c so many gates and no automatic walkway).

"my teenage view from a 90's visit..and now"
Ok, my last visit here was back in the early 90's and I didnt really think much of this place. I was in my teens and thought this place of having very overpriced unique stuffs in different stores situated like a plaza in a very dark tunnel. Back then i felt safe because I was with a group of gals and it was during afternoon hours. Having read the reviews below, I would suggest to just check out this place once if you are visiting Atlanta in ONLY in daylight time with friends or a group to enjoy as an adult. This is a TRUE long tunnel and it is DARK and dank. I myself would not bring kids here because it isnt family friendly (very dark even during daylight hours, strange people can go in and out here anytime, etc). Other than that, I would skip this place overall because Atlanta has other fun sights than this.

"Fun for teens!"
I visited here as a teenager and was it fun. This was over 20 years ago. I had a great time with friends even though they peer pressured me into the wacky roller coaster rides. I myself am scared of heights and these were the first roller coasters i have ever been....gosh, are they fast and scary! As scared I was (closed my eyes throughout the rides as shown in camera after you take the ride), I still had fun. There is so much to do here from buying unique gifts to winning prizes for playing crane games. Almost everyone can win a cute toy in the crane games for sure. I am sure so much has changed since my visit for the better. Definitely a fun and memorable place for pre-teens and up.

"As a pizza lover, not so crazy about CPK"
This review is based on another California Pizza Kitchen (CPK) I tried in LA--not in this location listed above. I love pizza....it is one of my all time fav. foods. Going to CPK, i expected much but wasnt so happy. The pizza is mediocre and I thought it wasnt tasty at all. I rather go to 'fastfood' pizza like Papa Johns than CPK considering the resturant price of CPK. Yikes! I have to give this one star b/c you can save your money and go elsewhere. Prices are overpriced and I think younger kids like any pizza no matter what. If you havent tried it, bring your teenaged kids cause it is an experience b/c CPK is so popular nowadays.
