About Me & My Family
We are a bit unusual in that my DH is an opera singer and we travel with him to all his performances. This means that we are on the road more than we are home and "home" becomes a relative term.
We are scheduled for the next few years to travel abroad and nationally, currently we are living in Berlin, Germany and spending about half a year in the States. My main goal is to make each new town feel like home while being the "stage manager" of our family. It's a great life but it does take some getting used to and some explaining when we meet new families/friends.
Our Family's Travel Personality
adventurous, curious, relaxed, simple, independent, energetic, spontaneous, sophisticated, easy_going, scheduled, artsy
We Just Got Back From
A three week visit to NYC.
Our Favorite Vacation Spot
Berlin
A Place We'd Love To Visit
I need to take the kids to China, and to St. Petersburg, Russia.
Favorite Vacation Memory
Vacation for us is always a "staycation" in Houston. But we have had some wonderful trips for my husband's work. While in Santa Monica we went to Disney and my 3 year old Daughter insisted that we make sure that Cinderella's wicked step sisters wouldn't be allowed inside the gates. She was reassured by a kind gate keeper that rude people aren't allowed in Disney. For the following three weeks, I was asking at the Library, restaurants, and stores if the rude step sisters would be in that day, luckily we never saw them.
Worst Travel Moment With My Kids:
Traveling alone in with my then potty training 2 year old at O'Hare and not able to get to the family restroom in time. Meanwhile, our first flight of the day had been canceled and then the second plane had been rerouted and we finally arrived in Albany 5 hours late and on the very last clean pair of big girl pants and no socks.

The Swedish Cottage
81st street entrance to Central Park,
New York (Manhattan),
New York 10023
The Swedish Cottage is loads of fun and worth the price. For $8 bucks you can have an indoor puppet show. The show's about half an hour long, and my 16 month, and 5 year old were thrilled and loved it. You can make reservations as late as the day of, but you must make a reservation as they have no way to take the money for the ticket at the cottage. Take the 81st street west side entrance into Central Park and it's just before you on the left. There are plenty of places in the area for food, snacks and your only steps from the 68th street playground.

THE GANT
610 S West End Street,
Aspen, Colorado
The Gant is beautiful but expensive. The rooms are lovely and the staff is very helpful. We stayed a week and were very happy with our accommodations. The only down side is that the exercise room is tiny. The pool and hot tubs are heated all year and there are plenty of families staying there and lots of playmate time. Having a kitchen in Aspen is a very helpful luxury be sure and consider that in your cost of the trip.

Aspen Recreation Center
0861 Maroon Creek Road,
Aspen,
Colorado 81611
The Aspen Recreation Center or ARC as locals call it is a beautiful facility and if you are only in town for a week, not at all worth the price. It has a rock climbing wall, and ice skating rink, a huge pool for kids, and work out spaces for adults. You can access the ARC easily by taking the free buss from downtown Aspen or drive or bike to the ARC which is just out of town. However, a hike on one of the many trails would be easier, cheaper, and perhaps just as enjoyable for your family. I do not recommend going even though the staff is helpful and the facilities top notch.

Salt Lake City Public Library Main Branch
210 East 400 South,
Salt Lake City,
Utah 84111
This is an amazing Library. It is several stories and the kids section on the basement level is fantastic. It's brilliant design looks like a European train station and every it has natural light throughout. It is absolutely worth a visit. The story time librarian leaders are enthusiastic and encourage participation. There are several play areas devoted specifically for children. We loved it there and our daughter thought that going to the library included meeting friends and having fun, exactly what I hope she always thinks about books and reading. You can drive, but I suggest taking the free downtown train. Plus, don't forget to go to the roof to look at the view.

Trolley Square
600 South 700 East,
Salt Lake City,
Utah 84044
The Trolley Square mall is small, but has some cute and unique shops that would be good for gifts. The parking is easy, but you could also take the train or bus quite easily. It is rarely crowded and has been under construction, but still worth a look if you are searching for something special that is boutique.
