About Me & My Family

My husband and I have been married for 6 years. We have a 5 year old daughter and 2 year old son. We spent 3 years as over the road truck drivers pre-baby and have visited tons of tourist attractions. Now we only visit the kid friendly ones which is why we love trekaroo!

"A must visit around Halloween!"
Opens 9/30 to 10/30. If you're in the area, you can't miss the Honeysuckle Scream Creek Haunted Woods!! It's not your Hollywood, guts and gore type of scary, but just enough startle and fright to get your blood pumping! I wouldn't recommend for children under 10 though. This is a walking trail, through actual woods that are "haunted", so be ready for that and in some areas it gets tight, you may even get dirty!

"Fun in the sun or at night"
We take our kids to the beach often. Not just during the Summer or on the hottest days, but even in the evenings and once, accidentally, when it was raining. Atlantic Beach is my 2nd favorite of the Jacksonville Beaches. The sand is much more flat in this area and there are not nearly as many restaurants and hotels as there are a little further down. That's not to say there aren't great places to eat though, like Ragtime. Also, this is a great area for surfers!
Finding parking can be the worst part, but if you don't mind a walk then you'll be just fine.

"My kids did not want to leave!!"
We visited the Orlando Science Center the last weekend of March, 2012. There weren't any dinosaur exhibits at the time, but we spent the majority of our time in the 2 fun rooms. I saw the "Bob the Builder" playroom from afar, and strategically diverted our little ones to other areas first. Knowing that once we hit that room, we'd have a hard time getting them to leave! ha That was right on the mark. We very much enjoyed showing our brilliant 5 year old daughter how fun Science can be! Our 2 year old son could not get enough of the giant race car ramp! He must have spent an hour or two running up and down the ladder to retrieve more cars and race again!
Once we made our way to the "Bob the Builder" room, it was much calmer and a perfect time for husband and I to relax in one spot for a minute or two. They both had endless fun everywhere we went!
So much fun that we decided to go back the next day. This visit was a little less hectic for us, b/c we all knew what to expect now. We even found some areas that we missed the previous day! I can certainly see having a membership here if I lived in the area! I know it would get a ton of use! On this 2nd day, there were even other youngsters and adults set up to do live Science mini-shows! It was great!
You're able to bring in your own food and drinks if you like, but if you don't, there is also a Subway on the ground floor with a huge, roomy dining area!
The gift shop prices for some items were really great, others not so much, but that's with any museum.
Considering everything, the good and the bad, I'd say we will definitely be returning again one day!

"We love the Friendship Fountain"
On any day you can visit the fountain, let the kids run and play, have a picnic in the grass or at nearby picnic tables, take a walk along the Riverwalk, visit the Maritime Museum, and even take a Water Taxi round-trip or stop at the Landing for an event, Lunch, Dinner, shopping, you name it!
Friendship fountain also has it's own schedule of events that include light and water displays set to music!
We really enjoy it and just recently visited after dinner with our extended family. Were rained out, and even loved that! Running around the fountain for cover, getting soaked, big smiles and laughing the whole time. Priceless!!

"Newly exploring"
My family recently purchased a membership to Tree Hill. On our first visit, it was very hard to find any signs of "life". Once we did, we had a chance to learn how the place operated. With the resources they have and their intended purpose to preserve and educate, they are doing a great job!
We can't wait for the butterfly festival and the kids loved watching the goats. There is a very small museum area around the hallways to the 2nd floor where you can check out all kinds of snakes and turtles!
At 4 and 1, my little ones really enjoyed it and ask to go back. That's worth it to me :)
