Kalaloch and Ruby Beach
Kalaloch off 101 Hwy,
Port Angeles,
Washington
WE loved it here. You can walk for miles. The cabins are very nice and comfortable. I cooked all our meals here. The housekeeping was very good and you get a bundle of wood every day. ( Get your groceries in Forks at Thriftway.) Don't miss the tidal pools when the tide is out. We saw huge starfish and sea anemone. You may even find sand dollars as you walk along the beaches. The beaches are pretty secluded and private. ( We went in mid-September.)

"Very Impressive Collection"
Plan on spending a lot of time here! I have lived in Massachusetts all my life and had never been here till just a few years ago. I was amazed. It is much bigger than I had expected. They have art for everyone...America, Asia, Europe, Africa, The Ancient World, and Contemporary Art. We went on a hot summer day and it was so comfortable inside. You can explore at your own pace with the map/guide they give you. I heard that the new Art of the Americas Wing is now open. We will definitely be planning a trip back to see this.
I would recommend this activity for adults and older children. Small children wouldn't appreciate the the art and probably would get bored quickly as it does take a long time to go through the whole museum.

Hiking the Na Pali Coast
Kee Beach - Highway 560,
Haena,
Hawaii
Plan to arrive early to hike here as the parking area fills very quickly. This was awsome! We only hiked part of the way, as you need a permit and reservations to go along the whole coast and camp. The views of the ocean are so beautiful. The water is a beautiful crystal blue. It is a bit strenuous, so be prepared with good hiking shoes and plenty of water and snacks. I would not advise taking small children. We did encounter one problem with a group of local teens at the beginning of the hike. They were not dressed for hiking but seemed to be following us. Everytime we stopped they stopped and seemed to be looking around to see if we were alone. We caught on pretty quickly and as soon as other people came by we quickly followed them. As soon as the teens realized we were not alone, they left. I don't know if this is unusual, but I would just be aware of who's around as you hike.
We ended our hike at a remote beach where we had our lunch. (This is the spot that they recommend you turn back if you are only doing a day hike. Please be advised that the currents here are dangerous and you should not go in the water under any circumstances. ) After lunch and relaxing on the beach, we headed back to the start of the trail. It was one of the most scenic hikes I've ever been on.

National Zoo
3001 Connecticut Avenue NW,
Washington,
District of Columbia
"Great place for all ages!"
This zoo is fantastic! Kids and adults will enjoy it. Parents will love the fact that's it's free. The National Zoo is famous for it's Panda Bear Exhibit, but there are so many other animals here, you could easily spend a whole day. Plan to do a lot of walking, so bring plenty of water if it's a hot day. We found the best way to go is by Metro and avoid the DC traffic. The station is within walking distance. We went here as part of a week long trip to all the places in DC. It is not within walking distance of the mall area so don't plan to visit the zoo while seeing the museums on the mall in DC. We found it best to plan this as a seperate day or half day excursion.

"Wonderful people work here"
We have never been here for the program to play with the puppies, but we did get our cat here. They have a small cat shelter and do a wonderful job of placing cats in good homes. The staff is very caring and take good care of the cats. It is very clean and cats are given lots of love. They even send out a newsletter every year with updates on the cats they have for adoption. I would definitely recommend this place if you are looking to adopt a cat. ( I believe they also have a dog adoption program for dogs that don't qualify to be service dogs.)
