"Good park"
We visited this park on a whim and totally enjoyed the experience. This park is great for families and offers tennis courts, soccer fields, dog parks, a playground, walking routes, etc. The park is accessible by car or public transportation. We will definitely be going there again.

"Great Grounds!!"
We visited the Fairgrounds to attend a Homeschooling Conference. The fairgrounds were easily accessible by car and easy to maneuver. We loved that there were covered areas of the grounds, especially since the rain chose to make an appearance while we were there. We will most likely attend events there in the future.

Discovery Theater

"Great Theater for little ones"
We visited this theater on a Friday for the performance Extinction Stinks geared for children 3 - 7. My 3 year old twins seemed to enjoy the performance which made it worth the trip into the city. The cost was $5 per ticket per child and $6 per adult.

Great things about the theater:
Easily accessible by public transportation
It is surrounded by lots of museums, galleries and even a garden
It is a part of the Smithsonian Institution
Easy to find
You can bring your snack and eat in the adjoining gardens

Not so great thing2:
The elevator to the theater was not working so we had to enter through a one of the art galleries. This wasn't so bad since we got a chance to walk through the gardens.
I had to pay for a ticket for myself even though the show was only for children.

We will definitely be going back for future performances.

"Our kids enjoyed this outing"
We visited this zoo in June of 2009 while we were visiting my mom in New York City and my little ones seemed to enjoyed the experience. The zoo is relatively small which works well for young children who get tired very quickly. The petting zoo area was nice as it gave my little ones the opportunity to get closer to the animals. Our children also enjoyed the feeding of the sea lions which they had only seen on the Planet Earth DVDs.
Great things about the zoo:
Easily accessible by public transportation
Small enough to hold a toddlers attention without overstimulating him / her but large enough to have a good variety of animals.
Has easy access to restroom facilities
Provides great learning opportunities for home schoolers.

I would definitely take my children here again since their appreciation for the animals there would increase as they get older.

"Good afternoon outing"
My family visited this park in September 2009 on a whim and totally enjoyed it. This park has a playground for the little ones and offers boating, fishing, camping, nature programs and tours of the lake. While we were there, our kids enjoyed the playground then we went on a tour of the lake. While on our tour of the lake we were able to see our first American Bald Eagle. Totally amazing.
Great things about the park:
Not too crowded (at least at that time)
Offers nature programs that would be perfect for home-schooling parents
The tours teach a lot about the animals that live in the area

Not so good things about the park:
Not accessible by public transportation
