Ardenwood Historic Farm
34600 Ardenwood Blvd.,
Fremont,

We attend many of the events they have and I've never been disappointed. Check out their website...Firetruck Day is great. They also have farm animals you can feed and a wagon train ride. It's a beautiful setting to walk around and picnic. They also have a Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze in October that is fun too.

We took the boat trip from Alexandria, Va to Georgetown. It was so wonderful! You see a lot of the DC area landmarks & monuments plus go under several bridges. Then you can walk around Georgetown and either ride the boat or take the Metro back. My kids loved seeing the other boats and kayaks on the water and seeing the airplanes overhead that land at Reagan. Well worth it!

National Museum of Natural History
10th St & Constitutional Avenue,
Washington,
District of Columbia
You could spend hours in this museum. There is so much to see and so much variety that I think it will appeal to everyone. It's definitely my #1 to see in Washington DC whether you have kids or not. Plus, like all museums in DC it's FREE! They do have a special Butterfly aviary (habitat exhibit) which they charge to go in but you can look through a few windows to see inside if you don't want to pay.

Washington DC Hop-On-Hop-Off Bus Tour
Union Station,
Washington,
District of Columbia
We thought it would be a good way to get an overall tour of the city while stopping to see some of the landmarks. In theory that is what it does but it takes along time to get around because of traffic and you end up spending too much time waiting for the buses to arrive. DC is easy to get around either by walking or the underground so I wouldn't waste your money.

Big Basin Redwoods State Park
Big Basin Redwoods State Park,
21600 Big Basin Way,
Santa Cruz,
California 95006
If you are in the Bay Area it's a great place for a local hike or even a weekend camping trip. It's so beautiful! In the winter the waterfall hike is amazing. There are plenty of short and long hikes to choose from so it's good for all ages. The campground is typical for a state park. With older kids, you can even do a small backpacking trip by hiking from one end of the park to the other.
